

Vivian Theresa Lapeyrouse Deffes passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at the age of 67. She was the beloved wife of James W. Deffes, with whom she shared 37 years of marriage. Together they built a life centered around love, family and devotion. She was a proud and loving mother to Megan Theresa Deffes (Julius Hatcher) and a devoted grandmother to her cherished grandson, Julian James Hatcher, who brought so much joy to her life. She is also survived by her brother Charles Lapeyrouse (Jenny); her sister-in-law, Noney Deffes; her brother-in-law, Anthony “Tony” Deffes; and her sister-in-law, Debra Lapeyrouse, along with many other loving relatives and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nolan “Dubby” Lapeyrouse Sr. and Justine Zagame Verges, and her brother, Nolan Lapeyrouse Jr.
For 48 years, Vivian was a dedicated employee of Greater New Orleans Eye Physicians. Her commitment, loyalty, and work ethic earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues and the countless patients she served throughout her career. Outside of work, Vivian found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. She loved listening to Elvis Presley, adored parrots, enjoyed cooking and treasured every opportunity to spend time with her family. Above all else, she loved being a wife, mother and grandmother.
She will be missed so deeply by us all and will always be remembered for her kind and loving heart. She made people feel welcomed, valued and cared for. Her presence brought comfort, laughter and the warm feeling of real love to those around her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Saturday, June 6th from 9:00AM - 11:00AM, followed by a Funeral Mass in Vivian's memory beginning at 11:00AM. She will be laid to rest in a private ceremony.
