George R. Powell Sr.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George R. Powell Sr., who died on September 16 at Chambersburg Hospital. George was the son of the late George L Powell and Blanche M (Hoch) Powell. George served in the Navy from 1960-1966. George was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot until retirement. After retiring from Letterkenny George worked at Wilson College.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie (Ellis) Powell, with whom he celebrated 61 years of marriage on July 18; son Charles Powell and fiancée Jerri Harrison, Shippensburg; son George R. Powell Jr. and wife Ginger (Sites) Powell, St. Thomas; daughter Amy Mills and husband Robert, Shippensburg; four grandchildren, Cory Powell and wife Mercedes (Naugle) Mon Alto, Maranda Powell, North Carolina, Jayden Powell, St. Thomas, and Takodah Mills, Shippensburg; one great-grandchild, Owen Powell, Mon Alto.

George was a loving husband, wonderful daddy, and an excellent pappy. He adored all his grandchildren and his great-grandson and loved spending time with his family. George lived life to the fullest and brought joy to everyone who met him. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved riding motorcycles. He had a BSA, Triumph, Yamaha, Honda, and two Harleys. He shared this love with all three of his children. He also enjoyed classic cars, especially his Purr-n-66. He shared this love with his children, too. He enjoyed camping and traveling. He enjoyed attending family events and watching his grandchildren grow. George was generous, kind, loving, and always available to his family. His family will greatly miss him.

Services will be private at the family's convenience. Burial will take place at Park Lawn Cemetery.
