James "Red" Frey
January 25, 1926 – July 30, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Leslie Frey, affectionately known as “Red”, at the age of 92. He passed on Monday, 30 Jul 2018 in Hershey Medical Center. Red was born on January 25, 1926 in Chambersburg to parents Mabel (Henry) Frey and David Walter Frey. Red was a member of the USS Dennis DE 405 during World War II and fought in the battle of Leyte Gulf. Red and Bertha Sites married in 1948 and became the proud parents of Dennis Eugene Frey in 1949. Red became an auto mechanic and worked at Shively Motors for 42 years. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed snowmobiling, and sprint car races. He was a lifetime member at the Landis McCleaf Marine Corps League in Chambersburg and VFW Post 6168, Shippensburg. He was also a member of Post 046 American Legion, Chambersburg. He leaves behind a loving wife, Bertha Frey, a son, Dennis Frey, and loving daughter in-law, Patsy Ann (Carnahan) Frey. Three surviving grandchildren, Chrissy Frey; husband Branly Orban, Rhonda Frey; husband Mark Moure, and James Frey; wife Tara Feldman. Seven great-grandsons and one great-great granddaughter survive him. His sister, Mary (Frey) Mackey, age 93, of Chambersburg and numerous nieces and nephews survive him. His two brothers preceded him in death, Russel Frey of Hagerstown, and David Frey of Greencastle. Viewing will be on Friday, 03 Aug 2018, at 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm at Robert L. Hendricks Funeral Home located at 3218 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg (Park Lawn Cemetery).
