Alice Stumpff, age 92, entered into Eternal Rest on July 28, 2025. She was born on May 14, 1933, in Tempe, Arizona, to Dollie (Solares) and Adolf Jones Romo Jr., the third of seven children. Alice grew up with a great love for Arizona just like her Great Grandfather Dr. William Walker Jones, an Arizona Pioneer Doctor.
Alice attended Tempe Grammar School and Tempe High School. She married Edgar Stumpff in 1953, and began her life as a devoted Navy wife while he served in the U.S. Navy. They lived in California and briefly in Missouri before returning to California. Eventually, they returned to Arizona, which Alice always called home. Alice and Edgar were blessed with six children: Judy, Marlene, Susan, Tracie, Janet, and Edgar Jr.
Alice was a long-time parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and Holy Spirit Catholic Churches in Tempe. Alice was deeply patriotic, serving her community as a longtime voting poll worker. She enjoyed sewing and generously shared her time and talents through many organizations, including Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, Cancer Drives, the Boys & Girls Scouts, and various school and church functions. Following Edgar’s retirement, they spent many summers together at their beloved Summer Home in Show Low, Arizona, where Alice delighted in the beauty of nature and the warmth of the close-knit community.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Edgar of 49 years, Brothers Frank, John, George, and Alfred, and Sister Maxine. She is survived by her Sister Irene Groves; her children Judy (Robert Jr.), Marlene (Richard), Susan, Tracie, Janet, and Edgar Jr. (Lilliana); and her many beloved grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom lovingly called her “Nana.”
Alice will always be remembered for her strong faith, generosity, and unwavering love for her family.
Her Funeral Mass will be held at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 1730 W. Guadalupe Rd., Mesa, AZ, on Tuesday, September 9, at 10:00 a.m. Internment will take place at a private service at a later time.
