Anton Joseph Gerdes

Gerdes, Anton 85, of Gilbert, AZ, predeceased by his wife Alice, died on February 24, 2018. Anton was born on March 28, 1932, in Astoria, N.Y. He was the son of Fanny (Oswald) Gerdes and Anton Gerdes.

Anton loved to golf, do crosswords, and super hard suduko. He loved all puzzles with numbers and was an avid reader. In his younger days, he played sports and his favorite teams were the NY Giants and Yankees. Anton was the King of Family Fantasy Football.

Anton was very kind, caring and liked everyone. His first priority was to his children and grandchildren to protect and support them. He taught us the importance of values, to be responsible, and showed them to look at the big scheme of things to make things seem easier. He was so smart, we looked upped to him, he was our hero. He was such a big presence and touched so many. He was so loved and will be greatly missed.

Anton is survived by his children Alice Morganroth, Diane Serralta, Anton Gerdes, Jr., (fiancé Debbie Rizzo), Susan Gerdes, and Linda Young, son in law Thomas Young, his grandchildren Michael Morganroth (Liz), Brigid Johannes (Michael), Brandon Serralta (fiancé Jenn Savine), Kaitlyn Serralta, and Anton Gerdes III, great grandchildren Ryan, Reed, and Ella Morganroth and Claire and Emily Johannes. He was predeceased by his son in laws Julio Serralta and Michael Morganroth.

A funeral mass will be held March 1, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1244 S. Power Rd., Mesa, AZ, 85206. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice of the Valley, 2020 Woodside Court, Gilbert, AZ, 85297.
