It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Arie Wisher, loving husband, father, and poker player. Arie was born in Germany, shortly after WW II, to parents who had survived the Holocaust. His father escaped the concentration camps by joining the Russian army. His mother, less lucky, along with her first husband and their daughter, were captured by the Nazis. That husband died, but mother and daughter lived, and ultimately were sent, post-war, to a relocation camp where Arie’s father also had landed. The two of them met there, and although their circumstances at that time may have seemed inauspicious, they gambled on each other, married, and started a new life together. That new life entailed a move, along with 9-month old Arie, the first fruits of their marriage, to Israel. As a young man, Arie met and married a lovely Canadian gal, Janis. They set up housekeeping in Canada, where they raised two children, Elan and Maya, through whom Arie became the proud grandfather of three beautiful grandchildren, Leo, Coen, and Asher. Later in life, Arie had much success at the poker tables, the greatest of which was when he won the heart of his second wife, Candace, with whom he has enjoyed a fulfilling and blissful companionship for the past 17 years prior to his passing. Arie was laid to rest at Valley of the Sun Cemetery in Chandler, Arizona.
