Betty Lou Atwood

Betty Lou Atwood, 95, passed away on August 27, 2026. Born October 30, 1930, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Betty was the daughter of Joseph Abraham Hardman and Arvilla Porter Hardman. She later resided in Mesa, Arizona, where she remained a cherished presence to those who knew and loved her.

From her earliest years, Betty’s steady strength and quiet determination were evident. She attended West High School in Salt Lake City and, as a young woman, worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Company—bringing to her work the same diligence and reliability that would mark every season of her life.

On May 26, 1950, Betty married Myrle Frank Atwood. Together they built a family life rooted in devotion and care. Myrle passed away on December 19, 1980, and in the years that followed, Betty carried forward with enduring resilience, offering steadfast love and support to her family.

Betty is survived by her children: Son, Randal Craig (Sandra) Atwood; Daughters, Debra Lyn Radobenko and Tamara Sue Koonsman; Grandchildren: Cassie (Scott) Headley, Kerry Atwood, Michael (Megan) Atwood, Amanda Chapman, Daniel Atwood, Kody (Cassandra) Koonsman, KaCee Koonsman; and 11 great grandchildren. Betty is also survived by her sister, Sandra Smith, and her brother Gerald (Linda) Hardman. She was preceded in passing by her husband, Myrle Atwood; and her sister, Marlene Hardman Jones.

A faithful member of the LDS Church, Betty served in many church callings over the years. Her service reflected a selfless spirit—one that offered help without fanfare and extended kindness in ways both practical and heartfelt.

Betty was an avid reader, and those closest to her knew that her love was most clearly expressed in the time she gave and the attention she paid. Known as Nana, she delighted in being a grandmother and great grandmother, and she treasured being with her family. Alongside her gentle warmth, she carried a memorable sense of humor—perhaps best captured in her unwavering loyalty to the Phoenix Suns. If the phone rang during a Suns game, she would let it ring; and she knew the complete rosters of all the teams, a detail that never failed to amuse and impress.

Funeral Service will be held at 9:00 am on September 25, 2026, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 700 S Evergreen Road, Tempe, Arizona 85281.

Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 am on September 25, 2026, at Valley of the Sun Cemetery, 10940 E Chandler Heights Road, Chandler, Arizona 85248.
