It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bill K. Showalter, who left us peacefully on March 23, 2025 at the age of 88. A beloved father and grandfather, Bill lived a life filled with love, passion, and joy, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Born on March 18, 1937, Bill was a man of simple pleasures and deep character. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He spent over 20 years serving his country, and during his service he visited many countries and did 2 tours in Vietnam.
Bill's heart was rooted in the earth, finding peace and fulfillment in his garden. His love for nature extended beyond his garden, as he enjoyed spending time in the great outdoors, often hunting, fishing, and exploring nature by taking drives off the beaten path.
In addition to his love for gardening, Bill had a passion for woodworking. His hands were as skilled in the workshop as they were in the kitchen, where he delighted in preparing delicious meals for his loved ones. Cooking was more than a hobby for Bill; it was a way for him to show care and share moments of warmth with those he loved.
Above all, Bill treasured his time with family. He was the heart and soul of every gathering, always eager to spend time with his children, grandchildren, and friends. Whether on a fishing trip, at a family dinner, or simply enjoying a quiet evening together, Bill made every moment special with his genuine love for those around him. He also loved to spend time playing ball with his grand dog Buddy.
Bill is survived by his son, Rick Showalter; his daughter, Shelley Beeding; two sisters, Betty Baughman and Barbara McDowell; 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Shirley; a daughter, Cheryl Evans; two sons, Bill Jr, and Mark Showalter; his parents, Eugene and Virgie Showalter; a sister, Beverly Pool; a brother, Ben Showalter; and sons-in-law Jim and Raymond. Bill's legacy of hard work, kindness, and dedication to his family and passions will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Bill was very charitable, not only to St Jude's and other charities, but he was also there to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed help. To continue this legacy, please consider making a donation to your favorite charity in Bill's honor.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held on May 31st at a family home.
