Born November 13, 1935, in Serape, Arizona, LaVern spent most of her childhood in Florence, where she proudly cheered as a Florence Gopher.
She met the love of her life, Thomas Kirk, at the Junior Parada street dance in 1953 Working as a sheriff deputy for the event, LaVern "arrested" Thomas for not wearing western attire. He offered to dance in exchange for his release,and that moment sparked a love that lasted 52 years. They were married on April 7, 1954.
Together, they raised their two children in Phoenix before moving to Casa Grande. LaVern's life was centered around family, laughter, and her love of gardening in her backyard. She was known for her sense of humor, loving spirit, and unwavering devotion to those she loved.
LaVern was preceded in death by her husband Thomas; her parents Burt and Audrey Myers; and her siblings Linda Myers and Mike Myers.
She is survived by her son, Tom Kirk (Ellen) of Tempe; daughter, Jamie Unger (Todd) of Casa Grande; grandsons Ryan Kirk of Chandler and Kirk Scallon (Megan) of Casa Grande; and great-grandchildren Maddox and Madeline Scallon. She is also survived by siblings Buddy Myers, Ruby Carter, Ida Suggs, and James Myers.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.at Valley of the Sun Mortuary with burial to follow. A reception will take place immediately following.
