Chuck was born to Willie E. Matthews and Annie (Dowden) Matthews on April 21, 1943, in Kisatchie, Louisiana.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 53 years Marie Joan (Nadort) Matthews; sister Bonnie Ann LaFleur; children Daniel (Karen) Matthews, Dawn (Gary) Vick, and Darlynn (Craig) Stephens; grandchildren Jason (Biz) Matthews, Mark (Martina) Musser, Hilary Mills, Tami (Erick) Bohm and Bryan (Glenda) Stephens. He is also survived by 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Chuck was predeceased by his parents, sister Billie Jean Jones, brothers-in-law Andrew LaFleur, Sr. and Eugene Jones, and nephew Andrew LaFleur, III. Also, step-daughter Vickie Ann Bucher.
Chuck had a 20-year career in the Air Force during which time he served in the Vietnam War and was honored to be involved in the secret building of the F-117A Stealth Fighter. Upon his retirement from the military, he continued his work with aircraft for 18 years at Northrop Grumman in both California and Lake Charles, Louisiana, (his hometown). During his employment he was proud to be the first Crew Chief for the B-2 Stealth Bomber. He then retired to Gilbert, Arizona, where he spent 18 years with his children, grandchildren and his two favorite dogs Sassy & Taffy.
