He served in the US Air Force from 1948-1952. While stationed at Williams Air Force Base, he grew to love Arizona. He loved the climate and outdoor life and he could see all the opportunities Arizona had to offer.
After being discharged, he and his bride started their married life in Mesa, AZ in July of 1952.
Within 12 years, the move to Arizona gave Hub the opportunity to make his boyhood dream of owning his own business come true. He started Hub’s Auto Clinic in downtown Mesa in 1964.
Over 40 years, his business grew from 2 service bays to 20 (1964-2004) and he had the City of Mesa contract to repair the city’s police cars for over 18 years.
Hub loved the Arizona outdoors. He hiked and camped with family, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Y-Indian Guides. He also taught his children to boat and water ski.
Over the years, he restored numerous Model A Fords and 1965-1968 Ford Mustangs (particularly convertibles) and enjoyed competing and traveling in his trophy cars.
Hub was a Mesa Baseline Rotarian for many years and served one year as President.
He was also voted into the Mesa Hohokam’s in 1985 and was a Lifetime Member.
For 20 years after Hub semi-retired, he spent spring, summer and fall at his “happy place” in Show Low, AZ.
Hub was predeceased by his father, mother, and 2 brothers.
