Dennis, 5 years after we lost you, I still hear your advice and guidance. You were a wonderful mentor, sharing your experience and wisdom with me to hopefully make me a better person. Fred and I speak of you often as we reminisce and laugh about our times together at STK. You are sorely missed.

I cannot believe it has been five years since you past to the better side my friend.  I miss our conversations, dinners at Morton’s, and the numerous lunches we had often.

Dennis, Dennis, Dennis,

It's been 5 years since you left us, and I know Joan, Genny and all of your friends still miss you dearly. You left us way too early, and everyone has unfinished memories of the times we did, and should have had, with you. You left a big hole in our hearts. 

I still keep bugging Joan about the 60 boxes of DVDs in the garage, and Genny about all of the beanie babies there too. That helps keep your memory alive for me. 

I wish we had more time together, but I have cherished memories that I will never forget. RIP Dennis.

Not a day passes by where I'm not thinking about you. I still have our weekly Thursday meeting in my calendar as a reminder of the  wisdom and kindness that you moved through the world with. I am forever indebted to you for your guidance through the many years I was lucky enough to know you. My dad and I often share stories and talk about how much we miss you. I hope I am moving through the world in a similar way that you modeled for all of us!

It's been 3 years since Dennis left us and I still think about him and all the good times we had together. I'm reminded in so many ways, like whenever I open my PC that he convinced me to buy, the mail advertisements I still get from the cruise line after our Panama cruise, I could go on and on with the ways Dennis affected our lives. 

We miss you Dennis, all the ways you made a positive impact on our lives will be with us forever. RIP....

One year ago today you left us. Where did the days go? It still seems unreal that you are not here.  Joanie and Genny miss you terribly. They are being so strong,  you would be so very proud of them. They have bad days and good days but know that you would want them to be happy.  Watch over them. Until we all meet again, Ciao.

There are no words that can describe the level of gratitude  I felt when I was in the presence of Dennis. I've had the pleasure of him being my mentor (in many areas) for the 6-7 years although I have known him for longer. Over the past 4 years we have worked closely on a project and with his guidance has transformed from an idea to a reality in the last few months. Dennis and I were negotiating a partnership and he was going to come out of retirement to launch the project. His passion for helping others is unmatched and evident from all the previous posts. I consider Dennis as one of my closest friends and mentor and never took for granted anytime I got to spend with him. Although I'm blessed to have a wonderful father, Dennis served as a fatherly figure to me as well. Even though Dennis and I loved to have conversations about business he always coached me on the importance of balance and family. Dennis, although a mentor to many was first and foremost a father and husband. His love for his family was evident in every experience I got to share with him. My heart goes out to his loving wife and daughter and I'm sending my thoughts and love as you navigate through these times. The magnitude of this loss cannot be expressed in words and the universe is forever changed for the time we all shared with this incredible man. RIP Dennis, you will be forever missed and I am forever in debt for the lessons you have shared with me.  See you when I get there friend ....


When Digi-Data needed a booth at the NAB trade show  in Las Vegas I was asked to help build the booth and signage.   Dennis provided a room to reconstruct the booth (I believe it was bought on Craigslist) and through a lot of input from the entire Digi-Data team we had a respectable NAB showing.  Dennis had a can-do attitude and he always made you feel at home even when traveling.  Dennis was always thinking ahead and gave me good advice when needed.  Mostly I will remember Dennis as a thoughtful leader that took a team approach and knew how to enjoy life along the way.

We are so sorry for your loss, Dennis passing was much too soon and too sudden. Our thoughts and prayers are with you both.

I’ve known Dennis for almost 40 years and worked with him at 5 tech companies. We used to kid that 5 was enough, since none of the 5 company names are still around. As many others have mentioned, Dennis was a great but subtle mentor, always knew when a little coaching was needed.

Since moving to Arizona 2 years ago, Dennis and I have spent a couple days a week together working on various projects. The most recent started 6 months ago with his 3000+ DVD collection. We unboxed, alphabetized, re-boxed and created so many spreadsheets I’ve lost count. He always asked Mrs. Dodson if Randy could come over and play, and Joan always made an afternoon snack. We laughed so hard sometimes I had tears rolling down my cheeks. Now I just have tears of sadness, I lost my best friend. I truly enjoyed and cherished his company.

Dennis loved life and lived it to the fullest. He loved traveling, whether it was on a cruise ship or to Disney, he couldn’t sit still. Dinners out weekly, game nights, 10-15 mile bike rides in the community, trips into town, he was always active doing something.  

Joan and Genny, please remember you both were loved and treasured by Dennis and he is still looking out for you from above. Our hearts go out to you, and we are always here for you in whatever you need.

Joan and Genny - my heart sank when I read the news that Dennis passed away. I often think of all of you and cherish how you welcomed me as family when Uncle Bernie passed away. I love and miss you. My heart goes out to you and I know you are comforted by your closeness. Until we meet them again, I hope Dennis and Bernie are together and watching over us.

Hearing of this news brings me great sadness.  I had the blessing and opportunity to work for him at Digi Data.  While he was a great CEO, he was a great person too.  A sweet and good man.  He didn't just welcome employees, but their spouses as well.  He loved a great steak and wine dinner at Morton's, and we had the pleasure of dining with him at business meetings.  He was just a fun and great person to be around.  His wife gave my wife a Christmas crystal gift.  What sweet people!   My prayers and heart go out to Joan and the whole family.  May God's peace comfort you during this difficult time.  Truly a great man, who will live on in the hearts and minds of the many he touched.

I had the pleasure of working for Dennis at both STK and Digidata. When I first worked for Dennis at STK (30 years ago), I was young and “high spirited” and communicated in a New York kind of way. Dennis’ observation was that I write emails the way I talk (which was a little too direct).   Dennis, in his usual soft tone way of coaching, gave me invaluable guidance on how better to communicate with colleagues. That advice has served me well throughout my career.   

Dennis was there with support and advice during my personal challenges as well, including a battle with cancer.  He helped keep me positive and strong when I needed that support.  He was always so supportive of me and everyone that worked for and with him.  He will live on in my heart and treasured memories. 

I am so very sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences to you both. I will keep you in my prayers, and continue to treasure my memories of Dennis. I am a better person for having known him.

This is one of those cases in life where words are not adequate.  

Dennis was a best friend and colleague for over 25 years.  To Joan and Genny, Babs and I give our heartfelt sympathy for their loss.  The world is diminished by the loss of a truly good man.

 I will always remember the time when Dennis and I went furniture shopping for the company apartment in Columbia. At the furniture store, as we looked over Kitchen, living room and bedroom furniture I noticed the sales agent had a strange look.  I came to realize the agent thought we were a gay couple starting up a new apartment.   I think Dennis came to the same conclusion at the same time I did and we hastened to mention “company apartment” and what our wives would think of our choices.  We had a laugh after making the purchases and driving away from the store.  

As the CEO he truly cared for providing a rewarding place to work for the staff while always making his best effort for the business and the company owners.  

To say Dennis was a “gentleman” in all ways is an understatement.  He showed this in so many ways by awards and recognition for the DDC staff.  As noted elsewhere in these memories, Dennis was the consummate host for employee recognition, Christmas parties and working dinners.

I will truly miss this “gentle” man and friend.  

To Joan and Genny, you can be assured, Heaven has opened the gates for this “good and faithful servant”.  May he rest in peace.


After over 40 years, as a great friend. I will miss him, was always our travel agent.  Shared many Disney trips and introduced me to the wonderful world of cruising.  Best friend anyone could ask for. Rest in peace my friend,  until we meet again.

Joan and Genny, as I think about you I am reminded of the oldest benediction in the Bible, Numbers 6:24-26. It reads; "The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up his face upon you and give you peace."

This is my prayer for you in your loss. 

Dennis was a remarkable man and one that I am blessed to call friend. It seems impossible that he has been part of my life for 33 years.  We worked together at four companies over the course of those years. 

Dennis was ever the host. I think that was what he loved doing most in life, hosting people. He introduced me to places and things I likely would have never done on my own. Business meetings at Morton's were always a great time. My sides hurt from laughing so hard and he always made sure I ordered a piece of carrot cake to take home to my wife afterwards. My wife cherishes the crystals that Dennis made sure every wife got at the annual Christmas parties. 

One of my favorite stories was the "brain tumor" he developed in Maryland. For those that don't know we kept an apartment in Columbia for many years where a few of us stayed while visiting the office we had nearby. One night Dennis was cleaning his glasses and the lenses fell out. He carefully replaced them and went about his business. Over the course of the next several days he began developing terrible headaches and was sure there was something wrong, maybe it was a brain tumor. One evening he visited the shopping mall across the street from the apartment. While walking along he came to one of those in-store eye glass places and decided to see if he could get an eye exam. When he handed the technician his glasses the technician asked, "did you drop these recently?" Dennis told him about the lenses falling out. The technician replied "you put the lenses in backwards." Tumor cured!

I will miss my friend. I don't think I've ever known a more generous and gracious man.

Our family is so saddened by Dennis's passing.  Larissa remembers when you two were 3 and 4 years old playing together at Children's Place and at each other's homes.  We all remember and especially Larissa, how kind and nice Dennis was to all of us.  Our families had many good times together and were always welcomed in your home in Boulder.

My heart breaks for you. He was too young to go. Every time we visited you, Denny always took the time from his busy job to fit us into his plans to take us up and down the California beaches.  We even came this close to being on The Price is Right, but Santa Barbara beach was calling us. When Terry came home from the hospital, he was shocked and saddened by the news. He’ll always be in our hearts and thoughts. We love you.

We never met but I feel like I know you both well.  

I had the great pleasure to work closely with Dennis for several years.  He adored you both and spoke about you all the time.  I remember Dennis having to leave several meetings to get home and help with homework and I have a particular memory of a high school project that he was so proud to be working on with Genny.  

We first met under very difficult circumstances due to no fault of either of us, but together with Cooper and Tom we built an amazing business relationship that developed into great personal relationships.  Dennis could have chosen to be much more difficult during some of our tougher challenges but he always took a measured and thoughtful approach to the challenges and served as a mentor to all of us.

On a personal level, I respected his strength as a family man and his deep love for you and his family.  I learned a bunch of Pittsburgh words that I had no idea at first what he was saying but over time became a part of our combined vocabulary.  I respected his precise thinking and shrewd negotiation skills.  I respected his drive and creativity with "Don't touch that switch".  I appreciated and respected his patience and determination.  I respected and admired Dennis' warmth and genuine caring for me and my family.  He always called Ann by her name and each of our children by their names when asking how they were doing.  

What bonded us most and made working together so enjoyable was his silly sense of humor, great wit and love of a good laugh.  He had that great giggle that turned into a belly laugh and sometimes would grow into his full on guffaw.  I loved to watch him enjoy a good laugh and it seemed as though he had an endless appetite that we all loved to feed.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.  I know he invested a lifetime of love and care that will help you to once again smile and feel his love and kindness sharing in his memories.

I am at a loss of words.  I cannot imagine what you two are going through.  Melisa and I have been praying for you two since learning of this horrific news yesterday.  May God comfort you both.

I have so many memories of Dennis...mostly around business or golf.  I sometimes thought that when Dennis hit a golf ball that if the ball had enough distance, he would return to him like a boomerang.

This is my favorite picture of me and Dennis.  It was taken at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas at the Sushi Rest in 1996.  This was just a picture and it is now a treasure.  We love you guys and so sorry
