Doris Jean (Browning) Bohren was born on Saturday, March 12th, 1932, in DuQuoin, Illinois and passed into eternal rest surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 24th in Phoenix, Arizona. She was the third and youngest child of Beatrice Mae (Biggs) Browning and Emmett Edward Browning. When Doris was 12 years old, the family moved from southern Illinois to Evansville Indiana where she grew up and attended Central High School, graduating top of her class. She made a choice to follow the Bible at the age of 12 and kept true through her entire life.
She was the beloved wife of John Bohren for 72 years and they were still in love. They truly relished every minute together through all the years---- while living in the Midwest, the San Francisco Bay Area and then retiring to Phoenix in 1994. Doris attended nursing school and thereafter enjoyed careers in bookkeeping, was a principal in five businesses, primarily based in real estate but also included a role as Vice President with John’s international manufacturing import-export business. She had a beautiful singing voice --- with a favorite always being “Back Home Again in Indiana.” She was a master at puzzles and games, loved reading novels and together, she and John enjoyed camping, sailing, travelling around the world and staying in touch with their wide network of friends.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents, her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Ina Browning and her sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Wayne Laswell. She is survived by and will be most dearly missed by her husband, John, her two children and son-in-law, her three grandchildren and their families and her four great-grandchildren—along with several nieces, a nephew and many friends.
Her final resting place will be at Haven Hill Cemetery in Olney Illinois where multiple generations of the Bohren family are laid to rest, following their immigration from Germany and Switzerland.
