

Ed was born on March 4, 1935 at the Rosebud Boarding School in Rosebud South Dakota. Ed is survived by his wife of 66 years Carmen Driving Hawk and his five children; James Driving Hawk (Vikki); Raymond Driving Hawk; Lori Aguilar (Juan); Edward Driving Hawk Jr (Brenda) and Leo Driving Hawk (Lori). His sister Virginia Driving Hawk Sneve (Vance); brother Arthur Posey (Judy). Ed loved hearing stories and keeping track of his 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother Rose Posey; father James Driving Hawk; daughter in law Leslie Driving Hawk and granddaughter Christina Wilson.
Ed proudly served in the United States Air Force for 20 year and retired in 1972 at the rank of Staff Sargent. He represented this great country and served several tours in the Korean war, where he earned a Purple Heart and earned an Air Force Commendation Medal in the Vietnam War. Upon retirement Ed worked for the State of Wisconsin as a Social Worker. Then in 1974 moved his family to Mission, South Dakota on the Rosebud Indian Reservation. From 1975 – 1979 he served at the Tribal Chairman for the Rosebud Sioux Tribe and in 1977 Ed was elected Chairman of the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI). Finally in 1982 he retired and moved to Arizona. Ed loved hunting and visiting the horse race track.
Edward’s final resting place will be the Sicangu Akicita Owicahe Tribal Veterans Cemetery in White River, South Dakota.
