Emedio Pepe

Emedio Pepe, 92, died August 21, 2026. Born May 6, 1934, in Brooklyn, New York, he graduated from Newtown High School in Queens, NY, in 1954. In later years, he made his home in Chandler, Arizona, where he was known for a steady devotion to family, a kind-hearted presence, and a gentle way of moving through the world.

From 1954 to 1957, Emedio served his country as a Specialist in the US Army. Emedio married Rose Lavelle during this time, and he went on to build a long working life as a grocery store manager for Pathmark Grocery Stores, before retiring to Arizona in 1999.

Faith remained an important part of Emedio’s life. A devout Catholic, he was a parishioner at St. Stevens Catholic Church in Sun Lakes, where his quiet constancy and considerate spirit were deeply felt by those who knew him.

After moving to Sunbird in 1999, Emedio enjoyed get togethers, barbeques, and playing pool with neighbors and friends—days marked by warmth, loyalty, and easy companionship. He also had a soft spot for animals, famously offering biscuits and treats to neighbors’ dogs. Music filled his home as well; he loved to sing along to favorite songs. Proud of his Italian heritage, he especially delighted in Italian cookies. Emedio found joy in simple pleasures and shared traditions. He loved to play golf and was especially passionate about watching it on TV, volunteering for many years at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Emedio is preceded in passing by wife, Rose (Lavelle) Pepe, on February 17, 2009. He is survived by his son, Leonard Pepe; grandchildren: Krystal Pepe, Leonard Pepe Jr.; and great grandson, Cole Forte. Emedio is also preceded in passing by his great granddaughter, Taylor Forte.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Emedio will occur at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 1 at St. Stevens Catholic Church: 24827 S Dobson Rd, Sun Lakes, AZ 85248.

Following the Mass at St. Stevens, a Graveside Service with Military Honors for Emedio will be held at Valley of the Sun Mortuary & Cemetery, 10940 E Chandler Heights Rd, Chandler, AZ 85248, at 11:30 am.
