Known by family and friends as Paul, he was born in Los Angeles, California, on October 16, 1940, and was the second child of Edward and Yvonne Carr. He grew up in Los Angeles and graduated from Fremont High School. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona for several years. It was there that he met and married Susan Gerton in 1961. In 1965, they relocated from Arizona to California.
Over the years, Paul held positions with various large corporations, including General Electric, IBM, Hughes Aircraft, Enterprise Rental Car, and The City of Los Angeles. Before his tenure with the City of Los Angeles, he found success as an independent flooring contractor. The City of Los Angeles then hired him as their first Flooring Specialist assigned to Los Angeles International Airport, a role he cherished until his retirement after 25 years of service.
Paul had an insatiable thirst for knowledge, often pursuing various college courses to satisfy his curious mind. He was largely self-taught in many subjects and could fix almost anything around the house. He found joy in music, particularly jazz, old movies, reading, fishing, sports, golf, television, and live entertainment. His favorite teams included The Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Lakers, and The Golden State Warriors. Known for his sociable nature, Paul never met a stranger, had a witty sense of humor, and loved to laugh. He was characterized by his humility, politeness, friendliness, compassion, generosity, and warm-heartedness.
At the age of 83, Paul passed away peacefully at home on February 24, 2024. His parents, brother Everett, known as “Tuffy,” granddaughter Brooke, and favorite Aunt Theresa, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Susan, son Dereke Paul Carr, and daughter Christina Carr-Payne (Jason), along with grandchildren Autumn Carr-Amador (Andres), Blake, Breanne, and Brent, and great-grandson Alberto “Beto” Amador. He is also survived by siblings Edward Carr (Carolyn), Edna Taylor, Eric Carr (Barbara), Emil Carr (Gwen), Elaine Carr, cousin Winada Love, many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.
Pauls`s greatest joy in life was his family, and he will be dearly missed.
