George Stebbings, Sr. passed away on October 22, 2014 at Hospice of the Valley in Gilbert, AZ. He was born in Wyandotte, Michigan in 1923. He was 91. George was preceded in death by his wife Betty and son Kenneth. He is survived by his son George Jr. (Kim), grandsons Brian and Mark (Kristen), granddaughter Angela, 7 great grand children and 3 great great grand children. George retired from Allstate Insurance after 30 years as an agent in Port Huron, MI. and spent his retirement years in Sun Lakes, AZ. He entered the Navy Reserve at age 20 and completed officers candidate school at the University of Wyoming. After completing his flight training, he was assigned to the USS Hornet's Torpedo Squadron VT11 as a replacement pilot. George received two Distinguished Flying Crosses for heroism and later commanded an air squadron stationed at the Grosse Ile Naval Air Station (MI). He retired from the Navy with the rank of Lt. Commander. Donations can be made to the USS Hornet Museum or to Hospice of the Valley.
