Obituary of Gerald Thomas Knoebel
Gerald “Jerry” Thomas Knoebel, age 83, passed away on January 21, 2022. He was born on May 13, 1938 in St. Louis and grew up on his grandmother’s farm in Mehlville. The son of a carpenter/builder/developer, Jerry carried on the family tradition and was proud that his son was doing the same. After years in the construction business, Jerry started his own companies, one of which was called Knoebel Construction. Without formal education but a fierce work ethic, the companies prospered and even after their sale, continue to thrive under the same name. In his younger days, he enjoyed hunting and boating. After his retirement in 1996, he and Dot moved to Chandler, AZ spending time doing some of the things they loved. He was passionate about good music, golf and travel. His adventures included places far from his Midwest roots: Africa, Spain, Hungary, England, Italy, Ireland, Russia… well as countless destinations throughout the U.S. He was involved in all the churches they belonged to: ushering, serving on Finance board as well as Buildings & Grounds committees to share not only his expertise but also his love of gardening via landscaping projects. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed continuously learning…particularly about history. While Jerry was a serious and successful businessman and monitored the news/world situation consistently, he also could be the life of the party at a gathering. He loved to joke around, dance and socialize and his contagious smile will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy “Dot” Knoebel, his children Christine (J.C.) Taylor of St. Louis and Adam (Beth) Knoebel of Dallas, TX and grandchildren Katherine (Shane) McCarley, Kathleen Taylor and Ryan Taylor. He is preceded in death by his stepson Kelly Pash. Services will be held on Saturday February 5, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Sun Lakes United Methodist Church, 9248 E. Riggs Road, Sun Lakes AZ 85248.
