Known to many simply as “Gil,” he was a well known and beloved member of the Chandler community. Gil spent many successful years in the restaurant business owning and operating several popular restaurants. Floridino's Pizza and Pasta, Dilly's Deli, and Carlos O'Kelly's all thrived under Gil's expertise.
Gil served in the U.S. Navy for four years, stationed in Texas. His time in service reflected a sense of duty and commitment that continued to guide him throughout his life.
On October 10, 1964, Gil married Penny, and together they shared 62 years of marriage marked by devotion, partnership, and the kind of enduring love that becomes a family’s foundation. He was a proud father to four sons—Shaun, Erik, Kristian, and Ryan—and a beloved grandfather to Patrick, Tegan, Lucky, Karson, Koleman, Kannon, Kassius, and Rebel. Above all else, Gil especially cherished time spent with his family and grandkids, finding his greatest joy in their company and the moments they shared.
Gil’s happiest hours were often spent on the golf course—golf, golf, and golf, as those close to him would say with knowing affection. He was a member of Southern Dunes Golf Club, where his love of the game found both community and camaraderie. Beyond the fairways, he enjoyed cooking, and he never lost his fondness for 50’s music and dancing—simple pleasures that brought warmth, rhythm, and light to everyday life.
Gil is survived by his wife, Penny; his sons, Shaun, Erik, Kristian, and Ryan; his grandchildren, Patrick, Tegan, Lucky, Karson, Koleman, Kannon, Kassius, and Rebel; his brother Robert (Cindy); his sister Mary Beth; his sister-in-law Karen Baiotto and Jeannine Reed; and his brothers-in-law Jeff (Nancy) and Jerry (Marion). He is also fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Gil was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Christine Kelley, and his brother Herbert Kelley.
Gil was a true and caring friend to everyone he met and will be forever missed by those whose lives he touched.
