Gwendolyn E. Dethlefsen

She was born in Kansas City, MO. on September 17th 1946 to parents Ernest T Rice and Nellie C. Rice. She grew up in Kansas City as well as Independence Mo and also lived in Oakley KS, Rock Rapids IA, and Sioux City IA, where she met and married Richard L Dethlefsen in 1969. The family later moved to Mesa, AZ in March of 1978 where she remained for the rest of her life.

She enjoyed a successful career in Property Management and bookkeeping. Her genuine personality, humor and smile made her a joy to talk to. Gwen loved the Lord Jesus and would pray for her family and friends consistently.

Gwen is one of five children. Sister Joanne Kella and Brothers Ernie, Ken and Dean. She is preceded in death by her husband Richard Dethlefsen. She is survived by her brother Ernie and Sons Scott Medema and wife Kerri, Kevin Medema and wife Dana and Ron Dethlefsen and wife Angela. She has six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gwen will be laid to rest on Friday March 13th, 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Valley of the Sun Mortuary in Chandler, AZ. In lieu of flowers, she has requested a contribution be made to the Arizona Humane Society or the ASPCA.
