She was born in Milton, West Virginia on September 1, 1921. Helen graduated from Logan High School. She was married to her first husband Lloyd Newman, her second husband Cecil Markham, and her third husband John Fisher. Helen had worked as an accountant for the State of Arizona where she retired. She was a member of the American Legion and had a passion for painting, word games and sewing.
Helen was survived by her children Pat Markham, Bill Markham, Dave Markham, Steve Markham, Roger Fisher and Jack Fisher. She was also survived by her twenty grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren, along with her brother Earl Dean Harshbarger.
