James was always known for being a high-achieving individual. Following high school, he had many scholarship offers and accepted a full ride scholarship to attend Kentucky State University. He was a star football player and was honored to be inducted into the Kentucky State Hall of Fame. A proud veteran, James served five years in the Army Corps of Engineers, where he honed the discipline and skill that would define his remarkable career. He went on to become Chief Civil Engineer for the King of Bahrain, a role that reflected both his extraordinary work ethic and his dedication to supporting his family. Some of his notable designs include a 2000-single and multi-family housing for the Ministry of Defense and Ministry of the Army in Saudi Arabia, the Tom Bradley International Terminal in the Los Angeles Airport, and various sections of the interstate and freeway system throughout California. He was relentless and unwavering in his career, as he continued designing for the City of Chandler for several more years after retiring in California in December 2000.
At his core, he was a family man and better known to his family and friends as Jim or JD. He was happiest when surrounded by those he loved—playing poker, betting on horse races, and sharing stories that brought laughter and connection to every gathering; his love for his family was immense and unwavering. Jim also loved to travel with the love of his life, Andrea. They cruised often, sometimes twice a year, and traveled the world together. His presence will forever be felt in the lives of those he leaves behind.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Maria Andrea Dade; his children, Jamie Elizabeth Dade, Michael Henri Dade, Craig Allen Dade (Anel), Richard Allan Z. Daza, and Ruby Anne Z. Sanford (Ronald); and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Jim, the youngest of 12 children, was preceded in death by his father, James Dade Sr., mother Mabel Green Dade, siblings, and Mildred Dade, the mother of his three eldest children. He leaves a legacy of strength, adventure, generosity, and deep love for his family.
A service to celebrate James’ life will be held in St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Chandler, Arizona on January 9, 2025 at 10:30 am.
James’ story is one of quiet strength, love, and a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
