James (Jim) Iver Lund passed away with his family at his side on February 12, 2023. He was born March 24, 1940, in Everett, WA, to Genevieve and Iver Lund. He joined older sister Janice and was followed by younger brother John (Jack).
Jim spent his youth in Everett, in the company of his best buddies-brother Jack and cousin, Bob Harstad. Jim graduated from Everett High School in 1958, and attended the University of Washington, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business.
Jim’s family grew with the birth of his daughter, Darby. She was followed, in 1970, with son Parker. The kids would enjoy a childhood full of adventure. Among their fondest memories are boating the beautiful waters of the PNW and skiing the slopes of Canada & WA with their father.
Jim worked alongside his father in the construction/carpentry industry. He also worked in sales prior to starting his own business. In 1974, Zee Medical was launched from the back of Jim’s station wagon. Over the next 45+ years, Jim’s business thrived. He won multiple awards and trips, reflective of his hard work and commitment. Over the years, Jim’s children would join him in growing the business and upon his retirement, take the reins.
Jim embraced his Scandinavian heritage. He enjoyed the tradition of lefse and lutefisk at his cousin Barbara’s during the Christmas holidays. Much to his family’s liking, he was able to master the art of Swedish pancakes.
Jim loved entertaining in his beautiful home in Woodinville, WA. For 10 years, Jim and his wife, Marsha, split their time between WA and AZ. In 2012, they moved permanently to Sun Lakes, AZ. He enjoyed the sunshine and was an avid golfer. Through the years, he was fortunate to have golfed many courses around the world, but truly his favorite course, was any course that had an open tee time. If Jim happened to be watching a golf tournament on Sunday…a particular young man dressed in a red shirt was his favorite.
He loved to travel and see the world. Jim and Marsha saw much of the US in their motorhome. They also traveled abroad to experience much of Europe, as well as Bali, Ireland, Scotland, Dubai and perhaps the highlight - a safari in South Africa.
Jim had a passion for flying. After obtaining his pilot’s license, he spent endless hours in the air. He enjoyed treating family and friends to trips and adventures in his Cessna 210. Roche Harbor and Friday Harbor were among his favorite destinations for a special occasion or quick getaway. Jim was an amazing and cautious pilot. His planes were meticulously maintained and he studied hard to become a skilled pilot in many types of aircraft. In addition, he had a great love for other things that went fast; boats, motorcycles, golf carts, forklifts, race cars and snowmobiles, which he drove at full throttle, crashing them many times over the years.
Jim had many loves; family, friends, golf, cars, planes, driving fast, flying, the Huskies, the Seahawks, Tiger Woods, baked goods and ice cream...just to name a few. He will be missed and loved eternally by all who were fortunate to know him.
Jim is survived by his wife, Marsha; his daughter, Darby Smyth; his son, Parker (Sandra) Lund; brother, John Lund; mother of his children, Marny Lund; stepchildren, Shay (Michael) McBride; Michelle Mers; Mike (Lori) Mers; grandchildren, Bryce Mers; London McBride; Stacia Mers. Jim was blessed to have many incredible caregivers in the last several years of his life- Bryann Braley; The Child Family; and Miramar & Victor Biralde. Our family is forever grateful for the genuine love, care and respect shown to Jim and all of us.
