Joanne graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. She loved both Math & Science. While at college she lived in a boarding house which is where she met her future husband Dave as he was doing an internship at US Steel. They were married February 11, 1961. She was a military wife but never got to travel overseas; she kept the home fires burning. She enjoyed tending to the boys & making sure that they learned how to cook, sew, clean & do laundry. She wanted them to be able to take care of themselves & their families if need be, as well as help out around the house.
Joanne was very strict when it came to school & homework. She surprised the boys at times by being their substitute teacher which came as a big shock. She had many different jobs from teaching to accounting to being an insurance coder in doctors offices. The boys felt that Joanne was the more mechanically savvy between her & Dave and often would purchase tools for her over their dad.
She loved most foods but her favorite was Steak, Seafood & Italian of course anything SWEET. She played Badminton in high school and college, bowled in numerous leagues, some even with Dave. A lifelong sports fan of all types but her #1 favorite was the Pittsburgh Steelers. GO BLACK & GOLD!! Her favorite holiday was Christmas & you could never have enough decorations inside & out of the house. All year long she was on the lookout for new & interesting "somethings" to add to the collection.
Joanne & Dave enjoyed traveling all over the world with friends & family. Cruises, Europe, National Bowling Tournaments but more times than not - Hawaii. She loved to craft - knitting, crochet, quilting & Swedish Weaving. She even taught craft classes at their summer home in Dewey.
We say goodbye for now entrusting you in the Fathers hands.
