It is with great sadness that the family of Lavina Jane Dickerson announces her passing on Thursday, September 5, 2019 surrounded by her family at her home in Apache Junction, Arizona at the age of 91 years.
Lavina was born in Hamilton, Kansas on April 19, 1928 to Charles “Fred” and Ella Heath. Lavina attended Haven High School where she met the love of her life, Kenneth Calvin Dickerson. Ken as a senior interviewed Lavina, an incoming freshman, for the school newspaper. Ken went off to fight in WWII and Lavina graduated from Wichita East High School. Before Ken returned from the war, Lavina had moved to California and was working as a typist where she typed his discharge papers from the U.S. Army. They were married in July 1945 in Hutchinson, Kansas and were blissfully married for 52 years before his passing in 1997.
Lavina was a homemaker for most of her life, however did work for a short time as a typist and owned a health food store before health food was popular. Upon Ken’s retirement she traveled with him to fairs throughout California and Arizona with a funnel cake stand. She was a wonderful cook, always making sure everyone was well fed. She was a crossword enthusiast, avid bingo player, and enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She fiercely loved her kids, grandkids and great grandkids always wanting the best for her little rabbits.
Lavina is survived by her 5 children: Marie (Orren) Wright, Tracy (Don) Scholl, Chuck (Dianne) Dickerson, Lea “Boop” (Jeff) Davis, Lori (Chris) Hipsley, 17 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lauretta “Peggy” Chilcott and grandson, James Brandon Scholl.
