Lewis G. (Andy) Anderson, 86 was born in Wabash, Indiana on October 1, 1924. After a courageous battle with lung cancer, he passed away peacefully at Lund Hospice Home in Gilbert, AZ on December 23, 2010.
Upon graduation from Wabash High, Andy enlisted in the Navy during WW II and was honorably discharged as an Aviation Machinists' Mate on April 19, 1946.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sebastian and Lottie, and two brothers, Bob and Don, and the mother of his children, Alice.
He is survived by his wife Georgena (Gigi) of 42 years and three children, Joyce Smith and Jene of Ocala, Florida, and a son, James (Esther) of Indianapolis, Indiana; three grandchildren, Phyllis and James II and Shari Lee Williams (Tom) of St. Augustine, Florida; and two great grandchildren, Nicole and Tommy; one stepson, James Ellingson (Joan); two step grandchildren, Jessica and Gregory; one nephew, Ron; and two nieces, Debbie and Donna.
Andy and Gigi resided in Chatsworth and Simi Valley, California where Andy was employed by Weber Aircraft Co. for 27 years as a project design engineer on such projects as the Apollo coaches and Gemini ejection seats into space. They retired to Sun Lakes in April 1989.
Andy will be greatly missed by all who knew him as a gentle man, devoted father and loving husband.
Services will be held on Friday, February 11, 2011 at Valley of the Sun Mortuary at 10:30 a.m. followed by internment service at Phoenix Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley, Lund Family Hospice Home, 1982 E. Woodside Ct., Gilbert, AZ 85297 or to Cancer Research, 1759 R. Street NW, PO Box 97167, Washington, DC. 20090 in Andy's name.
