Maggie C. Johnson was born, August 26, 1949 to the late Frank Johnson and Lula Bell Johnson in Lake, Mississippi. She was youngest of 13 children; nine sisters and four brothers. She did most of her schooling in Lake Mississippi, but later received her high school diploma in Detroit, Michigan. She later received her certification in computers.
She met and married the late Charles Wilbert McKee in Mississippi on May 11, 1968. They later moved to Detroit, Michigan and bore, raised, and loved very much, three children; one girl and two boys. She began a career for the Detroit Police Department as a crossing guard for a few years. Later she became a manager at Emerson Academy Day Care Center. After an accident, she retired and started doing volunteer work, serving and packing food for the elderly.
Maggie truly loved the lord and was a dedicated member at Berea Lutheran Church in which she did the one thing she loved the most; singing in the choir. She also loved dancing and music. She later went to Hammond Church of God and Christ, and was a choir member there. She then went to Mount Olive Church of God. She really loved Pastor and first lady Pelt, and also the Stricklands.
On November 29, 2022, following the passing of her husband and years of declining health, Maggie was called home to rest with her family by her side at age 74. She is loved by many, and blessed. She leaves to cherish her three children; Carol, Craig, and Anthony; eight grandchildren, Christopher, April, Anthony Maurice, Dale, Leron, Shelby, Anthony Jr., Sky, and Storm; five great grandchildren; Amani, King, Quick, Millie, and August. She leaves behind two lifelong friends, Renee Ewell and Yvette Strickland, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Memories grow
And memories fade,
But memories of Grandma's
never go away.
Her smile rests in ours,
Her hands helped us cook,
Her love fills our heart,
Her spirit runs through our blood.
The day you left and gained your wings
Our heart just broke in two,
We wish you could have stayed with us
But we know Heaven needed you.
You left us with the memories
And we love you dearly still,
No matter how much time goes by
You know our love will always be real.
I know we cannot bring you back
Although we wish it everyday,
But a piece of us went with you
The day you went away.
So that being said
We love you, Snoozie
And we shall see you again…
Love,
Your grandchildren
