After a heroic battle with esophageal cancer, Mark Storck passed away peacefully on December 30, 2022, at the young age of 52. Mark was a loving father, husband, son, brother, and friend. He would do anything for anyone, always putting others before himself.
Mark was first and foremost a family man. His family was his world. He married the love of his life Erica in 2011. He and Erica joined their two families from their previous marriages to become one amazing family. Mark’s son Matthew was his everything. Spending countless hours at the ball field watching Matthew play baseball was Mark’s favorite thing to do. Mark was also an incredible stepfather to Gavin. The two of them loved spending time golfing or just hitting balls at the driving range. As a family, Mark, Erica, Matthew, and Gavin loved to travel, explore, and cook all the food together.
Mark was born December 27, 1970, in Chicago, Illinois, where he lived for 22 years before moving to Phoenix in 1992. Mark fell in love with the desert heat and never looked back. As an avid golfer, he loved being able to golf year-round, and most importantly, beat his friends as much as possible—or at least get in their heads.
A construction veteran, Mark started his career as a masonry helper in Chicago before earning his Bachelor of Science degree in construction management at Arizona State University in 2000. Ultimately, Mark became a construction project manager spending most of his career at Sundt Construction. The Phoenix metro area is covered with buildings that Mark built, and with each building, a whole lot of crazy jobsite stories to tell. Mark eventually traded in his work boots to return to school to get his master’s in construction law, which he was in the process of earning.
Mark wasn’t just a construction guy. He was a renaissance man. As a Le Cordon Bleu trained chef, he loved researching recipes and cooking new, exciting dishes. His family will miss his amazing meals and his knack for seasoning up even the simplest bottle of pasta sauce to taste like a Michelin star meal.
Most recently, as an activity to keep his mind off cancer, Mark found a passion for skeet shooting and long-distance air rifle target shooting. Of course, much like his skill for any kind of bar game, shooting came naturally to him and provided Mark an excellent outlet.
Mark could light up the room with his greatest gift—an infectious sense of humor and ability to make people laugh. He was never above laughing at himself. Even in the darkest days of battling cancer, Mark always kept being witty.
Mark leaves behind his loving wife Erica Storck, sons Matthew Storck and Gavin Stanley, his mother and father Patricia and Richard Storck, and four brothers: Ron, Paul, Mike, and Matthew. He also leaves behind a large extended family and many friends that loved him as much as he loved them.
Besides being a family man, builder, golfer, chef, marksman, and comedian, Mark was just the guy you wanted to have as a friend to sit, have a drink, and share a joke with. Mark will forever be missed, but we know the fairway is perfect, clays are flying, the food is incredible, and the jokes are hilarious. Rest in Peace our beloved Mark.
Thank you to the staff of Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center and Hospice of the Valley for taking such good care of Mark. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Esophageal Cancer Awareness Association and help bring awareness to this horrible cancer.
A celebration of life open house will be held January 21, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Mark’s favorite restaurant, Nando’s 1890 W. Germann Road, Chandler, AZ. The family looks forward to raising a margarita with you in Mark’s honor and sharing some favorite memories of his amazing life.
