

Marlys Ruth Long passed away peacefully in her home with her family on July 24, 2025 at the age of 83. Marlys was born on December 8, 1941 in Evergreen Park, IL. Marlys graduated from Luther South High School in 1959. She met her loving future husband, Leonard Long, in High School and they were married in December of 1960. Marlys was a bookkeeper/legal secretary for Carolyn Krause, an attorney and the first woman mayor of Mt. Prospect, IL. Later Marlys worked as an administrative assistant for IMC in Northbrook, IL. After moving to St. Louis, Marlys was employed as an administrative assistant for Pacificare Insurance and retired in 1996.
Marlys resided in Chandler, Arizona for the last 29 years. Marlys was an active member of Risen Savior Lutheran Church and enjoyed volunteering her time there. For many years Marlys participated as a Pedal Pusher helping with the construction of the Lutheran Hour Floats for the Rose Bowl Parade. Marlys also enjoyed traveling, gardening, playing cards, entertaining, cooking, animals and most of all spending time with family and friends.
Marlys will lovingly be remembered by her children, Barbara (Bob) Blazek, Rick (Lori) Long and Karen Larson, grandchildren, Tim (Jackie) Long, Brittany Voyten (Brett), Brian Blazek, Ryan (Estef Ania) Long, Tessa (Chris) Musel, Michael Blazek, Bradley (Ashley) DeWitt, Matthew Long, Owen Larson, Rianna Blazek and great grandchildren, Frederick Heater, Graydon Musel, Alex Voyten, Blane Voyten, Savannah DeWitt, Connor Voyten, Emmalyn Musel, Madison DeWitt, Brynlie DeWitt, Isaac Long, Adam Long and Lucas Long. Marlys will also be lovingly remembered by her cousins, Reverend Ken Klaus - Deceased, (Pam), Tom (Karen) Klaus and, Janice (Bill) Mayyou and her friends.
Marlys was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, and her mother and father, Ruth and Walter Johnson.
A service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, September 20, 2025 at Dignity Evergreen Cemetery, 3401 W 87th St, Evergreen Park, Il 60805.
