Mary Rizzi

Mary Rizzi, a beloved, devoted, and faithful member of the Sun Lakes, Arizona community, passed away on December 15, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on November 11, 1928, in Bronx, New York, Mary lived a life filled with love and dedication to her husband, children, and community.

Mary was a retired secretary from Guidepost in Carmel, New York, where she worked with diligence and commitment. Her career was marked by her exceptional work ethic and her ability to connect with those around her.

On March 16, 1947, Mary married Basil Anthony Rizzi at St. Frances of Rome Church in Bronx, New York. Together, they shared 77 wonderful years of marriage. She always shined her beautiful blue eyes to give warmth and loving happiness to her husband and children.

Mary is survived by her children: daughter, Phyllis (Lenny) Catanzaro; sons, Joseph (Debbie) Rizzi and Anthony (Leisa) Rizzi; her grandchildren: Lenny Catanzaro, April Wells, and Vincent Rizzi, and a great-grandmother to four great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in passing by her husband, Basil A. Rizzi, and two grandchildren, Daniel Rizzi and Anthony Rizzi. She was the last surviving member of seven siblings in the Garofalo family.

Mary had a passion for knitting, crocheting, playing cards, solving crossword puzzles, traveling, and shopping. Her hobbies brought her joy and allowed her to share her talents and interests with those she loved.

In the community, Mary was an active member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church, the Sun Lakes Pool Club, and the Sun Lakes Card Club. Her involvement in these organizations highlighted her commitment to her faith and her community.

Mary Rizzi will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, devotion, and faithfulness will continue to inspire her family and friends.

A private service for Mary will be conducted for immediate family only at Valley of the Sun Mortuary and Cemetery in Chandler, Arizona.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mary's memory may be sent to the Arizona Humane Society.
