Mei-Jen Perng was born on February 4, 1942, in Taiwan. On November 6, 1966, she married Wuu-Jau ‘Joe’ Perng, and they shared 57 years together. She was a dedicated and loving wife to Joe, a devoted mother to her three daughters, and a doting grandmother to her four grandchildren.
In 1974, Amy and her young daughters joined Joe in Cleveland, Ohio. She came to the United States with limited English and with no family, and was able to build a full life in northeast Ohio. In addition to raising her children, Amy worked as office manager for Joe’s medical practice and co-owned the Chinese restaurant Dragon Gourmet in North Olmsted, Ohio. She and Joe also volunteered for the Tzu Chi Foundation.
Known as A-Ma by her grandchildren, Amy was a woman of many talents. She won many tennis and golf trophies, culminating in winning a car by hitting a hole-in-one during a charity golf tournament. Amy enjoyed many hobbies, including macrame, ceramics, sewing, knitting, crochet, cake decorating, candy making, gardening, ballroom dancing, and travel. A-Ma treasured spending time with her grandchildren and preparing their favorite Chinese dishes, especially dumplings and braised pork ribs.
Amy was a kind and generous soul who always put others before herself. Her warm smile, enthusiasm for life, and unwavering love will remain in the memories of her family and friends.
Amy is survived by her husband, Joe; her three daughters, Anne and her husband Alun, their children, Zara and Ivor, of Bath, England; Susan and her husband Thomas of Chandler, AZ; and Mimi and her husband Nolan, their two sons, Nicholas and Mitchell, of Chagrin Falls, OH; and sister, Mei-Tsai of Tokyo, Japan.
