Melba Florine Montgomery was born in Eldorado, Oklahoma, in 1935 to James Luther Martin and Eva Velma (Cooper) Martin. She moved with her parents and older sister to Yuma, Arizona, in February 1946. She graduated from Yuma Union High School in 1953 and began working at First National Bank of Arizona that summer.
She and Lewis Montgomery were married in 1956 and moved to the Phoenix area in 1958 when Lewis was transferred by First National Bank. In January of 1959 they moved to Scottsdale where they raised their three daughters and in 2000 moved to Chandler.
Florine was an avid Phoenix Suns fan for many years and enjoyed having season tickets for most of those years. She also enjoyed attending her daughters’ sporting events when they were in school.
She was an active member of Scottsdale Baptist Church for many years prior to their move to Chandler. In recent years she has been actively involved with the First Baptist Church of Sun Lakes, Arizona.
She is survived by her husband, Lewis, daughters Sharon Baughman (Tim), Sandy Claypool (Jim), and Cindy Montgomery. She has four grandchildren, Kendra Chilton (Logan), Ryan Baughman (Sarah), Lexie Baughman and Shayla Claypool. She has four great-grandchildren, Rylan Chilton, Brody Chilton, Wyatt Chilton and Hayes Chilton. She is also survived by her sister, Anna Woods (Woody).
Next to her faith in Christ, family was the most important thing in her life. She so enjoyed having everyone to their house for holidays and birthday celebrations.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Sun Lakes, 9535 East Riggs Road, Sun Lakes, Arizona.
