What a privilege it was to know Mike as my father-in-law. He is the strongest man I've ever known. He made it through every obstacle in his way and he did it fighting. He made it look easy. He didn't complain, he kept making plans. He had strength and faith that I admire. He was an amazing, patient, loving Papa to his grandchildren. There are so many wonderful memories of him that fit into 9 years of my life. I will never forget the influence he had on me, the kindness he gave, and the love he left behind. All the best parts of him are left here with us in our hearts. I will miss him greatly until we see him again. I love you "Dad."

It is with great love and deep sorrow that I share the passing of my beloved husband, Michael G Ritter,  who left this world on November 18, 2025, at the age of 73. We were blessed to share 50 years of marriage—a lifetime of memories, partnership, and devotion.

Born on December 15, 1951, in Covington, Kentucky, he grew into a man defined by integrity, quiet strength, and a generous heart. He proudly served his country as a diesel submarine sailor, E4, and was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery & courage, and carried that same sense of duty into every part of his life.

Together, we raised our beautiful family—Nicolette K. Ritter, Andrew M. Ritter & Scott G. Ritter —who were the greatest joy of his life. He was a devoted father and a proud grandfather to Caeser Ritter (deceased), Melissa Ritter,  Gavin Ritter & Garrett Ritter, each of whom adored him. His happiest moments were spent surrounded by family, sharing stories, laughter, and love.

He will be remembered for his humor, his kindness, and the way he could make everyone around him feel valued. Whether he was lending a helping hand, offering wise advice, or simply listening, he touched countless lives.

Though my heart is broken, I am forever grateful for the years we shared and the love that will remain with me always. He was my partner, my best friend, and the love of my life. His spirit will live on in all of us.

My dad lived with a level of courage and intestinal fortitude most people never see. He went from Bourgade Catholic High School straight into the Navy as a submariner. He earned medals, but what mattered most to him were his dolphins — the symbol of the brotherhood he was proud to belong to. That was his identity. That was his pride.

He had a sense of humor that always caught you off guard. One Christmas I asked for an RC boat for the pool. He handed me a tiny submarine as the “gift,” watched me try it with a confused look, laughed, and then pulled out the huge white speedboat he’d hidden as the real present. He was always making us laugh, and he had a generous heart.

For years, every Sunday my wife, the twins, and I met my parents at church and then went to breakfast together. Those simple mornings became memories I treasure most.

He was a devoted husband to my mom, standing by her through every season of their life together.

His greatest pride in his later years was his grandsons, Gavin and Garrett — twins he always thought were the coolest thing in the world. Even when his health made things difficult, he pushed through pain just to be present for them. One moment I’ll never forget was the practice before their big game. The boys were running drills when they saw my brother pushing Dad in his chair. They stopped immediately and ran straight to him. Gavin scored his first goal ever, and Garrett earned the medal for hustle. It was the last sporting event he ever attended. The smile on his face — pride, love, being seen — is something I’ll carry forever.

He coached soccer, baseball, and football for me and my brother. Season after season, he showed up — not for recognition, but because he believed in giving his time. Supporting kids and youth causes was part of who he was.

My dad didn’t talk big. He lived with loyalty, humor, grit, generosity, and love for his family. I’m proud to be his son, and I know he’ll be watching over us. I love you Dad!

I remember a time in the 70’s. Mike had purchased a Bultaco 250 (Spanish motorcycle used in  motocross racing). And it was fast, really fast. I remember him starting the bike, revving the engine a few times, engaging the clutch, putting it in gear and taking off. He didn’t take off slowly. The back tire dug a trench, and he was gone. I never remember him slowing down. He only went faster. After about a quarter mile he disappeared in a cloud of dust. He had crashed. He was okay (sore, cut and scratched). It was a heck of a ride. Like life, lots of bumps in the road. But we live it. He did!
