Naomi Jane Matthews, age 80, went to be with the Lord on August 6, 2011, from her home in Waddell, AZ. Naomi was preceded in death by her mother Glenola (Devenport-Olschon) Walker, her father Joseph Olschon, her step-father Tomas Walker, and her granddaughter Amanda Smailes. Born August 22, 1930, in West Newton, PA, she was the wife of Rev. Robert L. Matthews Sr. Naomi was first a Mum to all children and taught Sunday school many years in West Newton PA. She taught at Freedom Christian Academy in Phoenix, AZ. As a pastor’s wife she played piano, lead youth groups, and will be missed by many. She is survived by sons; Robert Jr. and John McCloud of West Newton PA, David of Waddell AZ, daughters; Cynthia Rybak of Myrtle Beach SC, and Ronalee Matthews of West Newton PA; 18 grand children; and six great-grandchildren. Memorial service to be held August 30, 2011, 2:00 PM at Fellowship Square in Phoenix AZ and September 11, 2011, 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in West Newton PA. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to your local place of worship in memory of Naomi. Arrangements under the direction of Valley of the Sun Mortuary & Cemetery, Chandler, AZ.

I was so sorry to hear of Naomi's passing. I grew up with her son Bob. She was a wonderful woman and she a big part of my childhood. God bless her.

Naomi was a wonderful, beloved aunt who exemplified the best of a Christ like life in all she did. Heaven is brighter because she is there now.
