Nora was generous, hardworking, faithful, and deeply selfless. She moved through life with a calm strength that showed in her actions and in the way she cared for others. Devoted and loyal, she gave of herself wholeheartedly, always putting others before herself. Her love for God guided her path, and she remained sincerely grateful for the many blessings in her life, living each day with quiet grace and unwavering faith.
Nora married James Louzada Friel III in 1992 in the Marshall Islands. He preceded her in passing in 2016.
In 1996, she made her home in Van Horn, Texas, where she built a life centered on family and care for others. Nora is survived by her six siblings in the Marshall Islands. Her legacy includes six children: Dora Teljo; Noreen Friel; Victoria Chelgren; James Friel; Stanley Friel; and Ernest Friel. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Nikki, Kami, Aaron, Bakol, Bella, Aaliyah, Kunkun, Baby Jimmy, Axel, Nico, and Luis.
Beyond her immediate family, Nora opened her heart and home to many others, raising and caring for them as her own, always making room for one more with boundless love and generosity. Her favorite title was "Bubu".
Nora’s greatest passions were her family and her heritage from the Marshall Islands. Even after making her home in Texas in 1996, she proudly embraced and represented her culture and ancestry throughout the rest of her life, carrying it with her in all that she did.
She found joy in sewing and crafting, often making clothes for her daughters and creating beautiful quilts. Nora also loved cooking and barbequing, preparing delicious meals that brought her family together—especially on Sunday afternoons, when she welcomed any reason to gather everyone in one place. She enjoyed dancing and playing cards, with “Aggressive Rummy” being a family favorite, and she never once “cheated.” She even picked her lottery numbers thoughtfully, using her grandchildren’s birthdates for luck—and, as her family fondly recalls, she always seemed to win.
Nora will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the family she nurtured, and the love she so selflessly gave. She will be remembered for her strength, her generosity, and the way she made everyone feel welcomed and cared for.
Though she is no longer with us, her spirit remains in our hearts, guiding and comforting us always. Her life was a beautiful reflection of love, devotion, and unwavering faith, and her memory will be cherished forever.
A Celebration of Nora's life will be held at 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM on Friday, April 10, 2026 at Valley of the Sun Mortuary and Cemetery: 10940 E Chandler Heights Road, Chandler, Arizona 85248.
