Otis Calvin Truvillion

Otis Calvin Truvillion was born on December 20, 1923 in Brookhaven, Mississippi to Annie Mae and Joseph Truvillion. From this union there were seven children; Otis was the fourth child. Four of his siblings preceded him in death: Quincy, Willie Dee, Thelma and Dorothy. He leaves his baby sister Kathyran (Roosevelt) of Detroit and baby brother Vernon of California.

Otis lived 92 years and through those years he did everything he wanted to do. Early in his life, he married Beatrice Williams. From that union seven children were born: Ricardo (Anita), Jose (Brenda), Terry, Tracy (Barretta), Troy, Wendy and Stacey.

After many years, Otis met and married Gloria Nealy on September 15, 1987. From this union came three sons: Kawon (Ronda) of Detroit, Calvin of Detroit and Mark (Tatiana) of Dallas Fort Worth.

In the 1940’s, Otis was a prize fighter and military police officer. He settled in Detroit in the 1950’s and that was home. He worked in Detroit for over 60 years at the famous Joe Muer Seafood Restaurant. In the early 1990’s, he was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Otis was a proud man who taught the fundamentals of life to all who would listen. He taught many lessons, “Treat people the way you want to be treated” and “Take care of your body now and it will take care of you later.” He is proof of that, he left us at 92 in good health and of sound mind.

Otis spent the last decade of his life in Arizona where he and Gloria spent every morning tending to their beautiful garden and feeding the birds. The rest of their days were spent laughing, attending yoga class and dancing to their favorite love songs. Otis’ love for sports and children stretched across many lives for nearly a century. The Saturday before his passing, Otis was at the park watching his great-granddaughter, Terrais-Joi, playing softball.

Otis also fathered Darlene, Dolly, Rodney, Pantheah, Roxzane, Gwen, Sherry, Dino, and Otis Jr. He leaves to carry his legacy, Gloria and a host of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
