Patricia Catherine Young

Patricia Catherine Young, 80, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2026, in Chandler, AZ. Pat was born on September 14, 1945, to Cecilia M. Callaghan Bloom and Bernard L. Bloom, in Patterson, NJ. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother John Bloom, and son Matthew B. Young. She is survived by her son John Jeffrey Young, daughter-in-law Colleen Young, sister Melissa Gerber, brother-in-law Stevan Gerber, sister-in-law Patricia A. Bloom, grandchildren Kaylee Young, Zachary and Trevor Young, Nathan and Gannon Young, great-grandchildren Derek and Oliver Young, a niece and nephews.

Patricia spent her early childhood in Bad Tolz, Bavaria, Germany, where her father was stationed after World War II. She grew up in Torrance, CA, attended Bishop Montgomery and South Torrance high schools. After high school, she completed Airline School and worked as an agent for Bonanza and Hughes AirWest airlines. When her sons started school, she went to work in San Mateo CA, as an Air Freight Manager, and later as Office Manager at Express Services in AZ. In true Pat fashion, she made wonderful lifelong friends at all.

At 14, Pat had to start carrying a lot of the family’s responsibilities. Her mother suffered a debilitating stroke, and her father passed away, leaving her and her brother shouldering many family duties and obligations. She was left trying to help raise her 6 year old sister. But the determination she had to do all this resulted in her being wonderfully kind, caring, and giving. That governed her life, she was forever helping and caring for people. There wasn’t a neighbor, friend, coworker, or needy person on the street that didn’t receive kindness from Pat, whether it was fudge, cookie bars, a greeting card, a welcomed bit of advice, a hug and kind word, or a much needed gift card. If you were really lucky, you got an amazing gift from her kitchen. (Best potato salad ever!)

Pat’s kind and giving nature was evident by her volunteer work. She was a trained child advocate for the juvenile and family courts in Santa Clara County, San Jose. When she moved to Chandler she started volunteering at Chandler Regional Hospital, she had 19 years and 5,000 hours of service, where she made some people’s dark days a little brighter.

Patricia, we know you are with your family watching over usand watching for hummingbirds, enjoying the Turner Classic Movie channel, and still making sure your shoes and purse match. Thank you for all the joy and memories, they will dwell with you in our hearts forever.

The family would like to thank Jackie Londo and Sherrie Lennard for making her life easier the last few years.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, September 26, from 1 - 4, at 1694 W Macaw Dr, Chandler, AZ.
