Born in Saigon, she carried a lifelong drive to build a life of purpose. Inspired by her father, she pursued her own entrepreneurial dreams, famously running her own gift shop and always keeping a sharp eye out for the next business opportunity. This same dedication defined her professional journey, whether she was shaping young minds as a teacher or connecting with people as a saleswoman.
Above all, Điệp’s true vocation was being the anchor of her family. Her home was rarely quiet—it was a chaotic, vibrant space filled with the sounds of her unmistakable, booming voice. She had a way of filling a room just by speaking, leaving behind a treasure trove of catchphrases and stories that her family will be repeating and laughing about for years to come.
She showed her love through action, never forgetting the small, specific things that made her children feel cherished. Whether it was a steaming bowl of pho, or the bún riêu she meticulously prepared because it was her daughter’s favorite, she understood that food was the language of her affection.
In retirement, she found a more peaceful rhythm in the garden. She and her husband, Phan thanh Nhã, spent their days side-by-side, hunting for new trees and plants to bring beauty to their home.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 43 years, Phan thanh Nhã; her daughter, Phan điệp Lan; and her son, Phan thanh An. She also leaves behind her sisters, Võ thị Dung, Võ thị Nga, and Võ thị Huệ, and her brothers, Võ thành Hộ, Võ thành Vệ, Võ thành Ken, and Võ thành Kevin. She is reunited with her parents, Võ thành Triệu and Nguyễn thi Trân, and her brothers, Võ thành Toản and Võ thành Hào.
Điệp’s legacy is not just in the milestones she achieved, but in the loud, joyful, and deeply cared-for home she built for those she loved most.
