My name is Arun Arora, I had known Rao for over 30 years.  Starting at Salt River when we met first time professionally and  later continued after his retirement.  I had been in contact  with Rao on a regular basis. I tried to call him many times since September but could not connect. 
I am so sorry to learn that Rao is no longer in this world. What happened ?  He told me once that he has a son in Florida. Unfortunately, I never met him. 
Please let me know what happened and when did he leave this world. I am going to miss him very much. He was a nice person and will remain in my memory for ever.

Rao was married to my first cousin Kusuma, and we have known Rao since he moved to USA in early 80's. For several years our families used to meet periodically in NJ/NY area. We met few times after they moved to Phoenix area, but after my cousin passed away, our interactions were less frequent.  On each of his trips to India/ Hyderabad, he used to visit my mother (or at minimum call her) without fail. We chatted on phone around July/ Aug time frame after he recovered from a fall, and caught up on a lot of things. Unfortunately, that was my last interacton with him. We pray for him and his family during these challenging times.

Uncle Thallam Rao (that is how we call him) has been very friendly and had good time with him when he visited my Dallas home (2 times) and one time to Florida, when we drove together from Fort Lauderdale to Shanti Niketan (situated in Orlando).  Initially, he was thinking to settle in Shanti Niketan-Florida,  but changed his mind.  I have seen him last time in February in Chandler, attached is the picture. 

Rao Thallam passed away on September 15th 2020. May he rest in peace.

He (IEEE M '75, SM '80, F '02) was a Senior Principal Engineer with Salt River Project (SRP), which is a public water and power utility serving central Arizona. He worked for the General Electric Company for ten years prior to joining SRP in 1985. He has published 60 papers in HVDC transmission, harmonics, power quality, and surge arresters. He wrote chapters in two books, Electrical Engineering Handbook and Electric Power Engineering Handbook, both published by CRC Press. Dr. Thallam received a US patent in 1982 and the IEEE Standards Board medallion for “outstanding achievement through standards” in 1996. He was the Chairman of the IEEE Phoenix Section in 2006.
