

After a long and courageous battle, Raymond “Big Ray” Russo, 72, of Queen Creek, Arizona passed away peacefully on March 2, 2026, just days before his 73rd birthday. Ray was born on March 9, 1953, in New York, New York to Vincent and Rosemary Russo. Even though he was born in New York, according him Arizona became his true home and he would be so proud to tell others that Arizona was his home.
Ray started his career in the family industry in the garment district of New York. He started his second period of life and moved from New York to Arizona where he followed passion of cars which lead him to move into the automobile industry. This is where his love for cars and natural charisma made him feel right at home. Known by many as “Big Ray,” he had a larger-than-life personality, a sharp sense of humor, and an endless curiosity about the world.
Big Ray was a passionate collector and lifelong learner, had a deep appreciation for history especially military history which was inspired by his father, Vincent Russo, a veteran of World War II. His big love for cars, firearms, watches, and knives, which he took pride in the many collections he built over the years.
Music was another lifelong passion. Ray was a drummer who has had the same drum set since he was 17 years old, showing his passion and love for music. He has also proudly passed down the same love of music to his children.
Later in life, Ray pursued another dream by stepping into the world of film and acting. He appeared in several independent films where he played the well suited role of a mobster. Proving it’s never too late to chase a passion.
Above all else, Ray was a devoted father, grandfather, and also A.KA “Grandpa Uber” who cared deeply for his family. His repeated stories, laughter, and unmistakable personality left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Ray was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Russo, who passed away in 1996.
He is survived by his children Gregory, Raymond, Christopher, and Danielle; his five cherished grandchildren, Matthew, Jillian, Summer, Damian, and Dillan; his brother Michael.
Ray’s legacy lives on through his family, his passions, and the many memories he created with those he loved. His stories, music, and larger-than-life spirit will never be forgotten.
