Robert Bob/Sonny Webster Hougland

1942-2021

Robert (Bob/Sonny) Hougland 79 of Gilbert, Arizona passed away due to a battle with heart disease on October 24, 2021. He was known as Bob to his friends and co-workers and Sonny by his family. He was born to Marcia and George Hougland in Wellston, Ohio on August 27, 1942. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1960 and proudly served his country for 22 years. In 1964 he married the love of his life, Janis Wilson-Bright. He retired from the Navy in 1982 as a Chief Petty Officer. After retiring from the Navy he earned his associate's degree. He went on to have a career at McDonnell Douglas where he retired from in 2007.

He loved spending time with his family and friends, enjoyed being a life long learner and was an avid reader and trivia buff.

Preceded in death by his parents, George and Marcia; his beloved wife, Janis and middle son, Dana Bright.

Survived by sons Eric Hougland and Tracey Lee (wife Patti) of Gilbert, Arizona; sisters: Jean Hougland of Columbus, Ohio; and Tracy Lynn Hougland of Galloway, Ohio. He also leaves behind his in-laws, Bill and Caroline Wilson of Westerville, Ohio, several grandchildren and many loving cousins.

Memorial service will be held on Friday November 12, 2021 at Noon at Valley of the Sun Mortuary and Cemetery Chandler, Arizona 10940 E. Chandler Heights Rd.
