Robert Stewart grew up in a children's home outside Xenia, Ohio during the Depression. He faced life with a smile and a terrific sense of humor. He entered the Army during WWII, operating as a paratrooper in the Pacific theater. Rob was injured during the occupation of Okinawa, and re-habilitated there before returning to the States.
He worked as a GM mechanic for over 40 yrs, specializing in transmission work. He married Doris in 1967. After retirement, Robert & Doris worked extensively with the Apache Indian Christian Missions in Northern Arizona, and went to Mexico to build houses for the needy. Their home in Apache Junction AZ was always filled with family and visitors. They enjoyed vacationing all over the country, summering in Ohio with family and spending time with their grandchildren. Doris passed away in January of 2008, and Rob has been waiting to join her since then. On August 31, 2010 he passed away peacefully at home under Hospice care after complications from a fall. His family feels blessed to have been a part of his amazing life. His loving nature, work ethic, generosity and compassion are a model for all of us. He leaves behind his children, Deborah Frye & Cathy Fitzwater (Mike), son Michael Stewart (Sonia), grandchildren Robert, Audrey, Lauren, Michael & Lindsey, great-grandchildren Colton & Bianca.
Arrangements under the direction of Valley of the Sun Mortuary & Cemetery, Chandler, AZ.
