

Robert (Bob) Weaver was born in Toledo, Ohio and passed away peacefully in Tempe, Arizona on July 23, 2016. He was preceded in death by Betty, his beloved wife for 58 years; parents Monte and June Weaver, brother Max, sisters Crystal Townsend, Alice Croniser, and his grandson, Jason Weaver. Bob is survived by his sisters Betty (Reed) Dunbar and Sally Weaver, sons; Tim, Ron (Beth), and Terry, six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, two great -great grand children, and his dear friend Carol Venberg.
Bob served in the Ohio State 107th Calvary from 1938-1942. He became an aviation cadet in 1943. He completed transitional training as a fighter pilot and his overseas assignment was in B24’s as a co-pilot. He married Sara Elizabeth (Betty) Snook in 1943. He then went to Australia to fly B24’s. He flew 39 combat missions and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters, and the Purple Heart. He served two other tours overseas: one in Okinawa and one in France. He returned from France in 1961, where he was assigned to Luke Air Force Base and retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1962. His total service in the military was 27 years. After leaving the military Bob moved to Glendale, Arizona and went to work for the state of Arizona from 1965-1982. After retirement he moved to Sun Lakes and then to Friendship Village. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, camping, golf, and riding his motorcycle.
Bob was a member of the United Methodist Church for over 50 years; most recently Chandler United Methodist Church. During that time he taught Sunday school, participated in Bible studies, and belonged to the singles group. He considered the members of the church his extended family.
A military interment with high honors will be held at Valley of the Sun Memorial Park (10940 E. Chandler Heights Rd.) on August 2 at 9:00 a.m. Immediately following the interment a Celebration of Life will be held at Chandler United Methodist Church (450 E. Chandler Heights Rd.) with a light lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers a memorial may be made to Chandler United Methodist Church or a favorite charity.
