Born September 17,1931 Lamberton, Minnesota, oldest child of Walter and Velma (Wiecks) Schnormeier.
Russ spent his childhood in Minnesota with his two younger sisters, attending Lamberton public schools. He met and married Dorothy Flint on September 18, 1953. The young family moved to Albuquerque in 1956 so Russ could complete his degree at the University of New Mexico in Engineering. He was the first member of his family to graduate college.
His job as a civil engineer took he and his family to several states. Moving to Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska before calling Arizona home. The family spent many a weekend on family trips, visiting national parks, and camping.
He had a long and illustrious career as an engineer. One of his greatest achievements was helping to develop rubberized asphalt, which many of our modern roads now use. Past retirement he continued his consulting work.
A medical miracle, Russ was diagnosed with type one diabetes as a young man, but through his active lifestyle and with the help of Dorothy he was one of the oldest living survivors of the disease.
Russ's hobbies have been many. He participated in demolition derbies, scuba diving, traveled the world, ultra light gliding just to name a few. Later in life he enjoyed making stained glass, golfing, collecting John Deere model tractors. He had also had a passion for geology.
Russ was a devoted servant to the lord and involved in the Baptist church.
He is survived by his sister Bernadine Starken, wife Dorothy Schnormeier, his two children Jim Schnormeier and Terri Graf, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
