From the beginning of life to its final days, she carried herself with quiet strength and a steady devotion to those she loved.
Sachiko was born in the Northern Mariana Islands in the North Pacific to Sochi and Kamado (Kanna) Arata. Her roots and upbringing shaped a woman of deep care and perseverance, qualities that remained evident throughout her life.
A devoted homemaker, Sachiko raised her family on a farm in Cochise County, Arizona. She approached the work of home and family with steady purpose, offering warmth, constancy, and the kind of generosity that is shown most clearly in everyday acts of love.
In 1973, Sachiko married Richard Delbert Hobbs. He preceded her in passing on November 6, 2020.
Sachiko is survived by her daughter, Melissa (Ron) Grey, and son, Takashi (Vicki) Hobbs; grandchildren: Richard (Flor) Hobbs and Nicholas “Scott” (Danielle) Hobbs; her sisters: Fumiko Cho and Yoshiko Weller.
Sachiko was passionate about flowers and loved gardening, finding joy and peace in nurturing living things and bringing beauty to the world around her. She also loved to laugh and dance, and she adored being with her family—moments that defined her home and the memories her loved ones will carry forward.
Aside from her immediate family, Sachiko was a mama-san and grandma to many, extending her care beyond bloodlines and into the lives of those fortunate enough to be welcomed into her circle. Her legacy is one of love freely given, strength gracefully lived, and a spirit that will be deeply missed and enduringly honored.
In her final years, Sachiko embraced a childlike faith in Jesus that brought her profound and gentle peace. She now rests securely in the arms of her Savior Jesus, surrounded by the perfect peace she carried so beautifully to the end.
A Celebration of Life Graveside service for Sachiko will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 2, 2026 at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona: 2929 E Pinnacle Peak Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85024.
