Salvatore Michael Tortora of Chandler, AZ, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly Sunday, June 28, 2020. Sal was born on August 2, 1957 to Leopoldo and Patricia Galvin (Tortora) in Manchester, NH, and was raised in Huntington Station, NY. Sal graduated from Walt Whitman High school in 1975 and attended college at Stony Brook University New York.
After college Sal’s work with the family business took him across the country from Atlanta to Dallas and finally settling on his home for the last 35 years, Arizona. Sal worked for Phoenix Scaffolding for many years before becoming a successful real estate agent in Chandler, AZ. Sal was known as someone who built a strong relationship with his clients. Always working hard on their behalf, he took great pleasure in getting them their dream home. He loved making others feel happy and to see things on the bright side. Always looking for a reason to celebrate and raise a glass!
Sal’s life revolved around his family and friends. He was a beloved husband to Susan Tortora, father to Leopoldo Tortora, and stepfather to Ashley Gayler. He is survived by his father Leopoldo, mother Patricia, sisters Patti Serrago and Paula Tortora-Tan and brother Victor Tortora. He has an extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws too numerous to list, but such an important part of his life.
Sal will be remembered as someone who lived life to its fullest. Sal was loud and gregarious and the life of every party. He was always laughing and telling jokes, loved his people with all his heart and would do anything for anyone. He was the best husband and father a family could ever dream of. He was a one of a kind special kind of man that words just cannot do justice, which you understand if you knew him. He was taken from us far too soon. A memorial service will take place when it is safe for family and friends to travel, gather, hug, laugh and party together in his honor. Details will be posted when available.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to curesma.org in his honor. This is the foundation supporting research to cure Spinal Muscular Atrophy, which our son Leo has. Leo was his world, as demonstrated through his relentless dedication to his care and quality of life. A donation to help cure, and hopefully eradicate this condition, would be what Sal would want.
