People who know me with my grandparents know they call me Nonstop. Well, when I got the phone call, it felt like time stopped for a second while the world rearranged. I was standing there, thinking about the plane ticket I had, ready to fly to Phoenix in two days. Formor was the best grandma someone could ask for and I will always miss her. She was so funny, her humor coming through when you’d least suspect it. Spending time stealing my chocolate chip cookies from the pan after I roll them. Giggling devilishly. Her coffee addiction, always ready to go for a coffee run with me to get out of the house. And her strength, which I aspire to have. Even when her body was slowly failing her, she never complained about her aches and pains, always looking to see what she can do, not what she can’t. Bumpy always says that she’s the gracious one, while he will complain at the drop of a hat. Most of all, I will miss her love. Love of family and her dogs. I loved talking with her, telling her all about my friends and life, and getting her advice on how to move forward if I was struggling. I will miss her and her light. I love you Formor, and Bumpy, and Hopi.

Part 2

She’d often say, “It’s easier to go with the flow,” and she really lived that.
Of course, she could put up a fight if she really wanted to — but most of the time, she was easygoing, happy to do whatever made others happy, and never needed the spotlight.

Christmases in the house in Boring are treasured memories for me.

We’d all gather around the tree and she’d sit back while Lauren or Gabe passed out the presents, just happy to watch our excitement.
Our parents would have to tell us to stop and wait while Formor opened hers. She was careful and methodical when opening them — and always grateful for what she got.

Her presents to us were always thoughtful.
One year, when I was really little (think early 2000s), I really wanted a doll of Dot from A Bug’s Life. Formor found one online — somewhere in Europe, on eBay — and ordered it for me.
This was before online ordering was really a thing, so it was a big deal.

Quietly going out of her way for us was a very Formor thing to do.

She taught patience.
She taught kindness, generosity, and how to be content with what you have.

She showed me how to find humor in life’s little moments — and, most importantly, she taught me to cherish family, even the four-legged, tail-wagging members.

I love you, Formor.

Part 1

There’s no easy way to write a memoir.
Even now that she’s gone, I don’t think there’s any way to describe my Formor that fully captures who she was — not in a way that could ever encompass her completely.

Knowing I’ll see her again someday doesn’t dull the ache in my chest or stop the tears from falling.

But maybe that ache is its own kind of proof — a reminder of how much I loved her, and how deeply I was loved in return.

Formor taught me so many things, and I carry countless memories of her that I never want to lose.

Her favorite color was blue. As a kid, I was so proud that we had the same favorite color.

She loved chocolate. The little “oooh...chocolate” she’d say when choosing between flavors always made me smile. Of course, it was never really a choice — chocolate was always the right answer.

She loved her coffee — black, of course. No one was allowed to take her coffee away. She’d give the stink eye to anyone who tried. And the angel face she’d make when she was caught “misbehaving” — I can still see it so clearly in my mind.

I miss her little laugh when she picked up the phone and said hi.
She was an incredible listener — always happy to hear about my day, even when nothing much had happened.

Her love for her family was the core of who she was. I’ll forever treasure the simple moments: sitting beside her while we watched TV, or just being in the same room together.

She loved shows like Criminal Minds and NCIS, and whenever I watch them — or any other murder mystery — I think of her.
It was always fun to share a new series with her and talk about the plot — she was always so engaged and we'd talk about who we thought the culprit was.

Formor Naima used to joke that Formor was a saint for putting up with Bumpee — and honestly, she was right.

It is impossible to describe a friendship spanning more than fifty years. Sandi touched us all in so many ways.  She was caring, hard working, and welcomed us into her family.  I will always  remember her reaching out with open arms welcoming my child.  Walies had never seen her before that day, but she has heard about her Aunt Sandi.  I think this is Sandi as we all knew her, welcoming us with open arms.  With love, until we meet again. We love you, April

Such a sweet lady. As a friend of Susan’s, spent a few sleepovers at her house and Susan’s Mom was always so kind to me. My deepest condolences to her family. So hard to lose an important, loved and cherished part of your family.  Glad I got to share a little part of her in my growing up years, too. May you all find peace and solace in these difficult times.
