Just learned of Sandy's passing from a Stantec rep in Vancouver, BC.  This came as quite a shock to us.  On behalf of the entire AATA International, Inc. organization, I extend our condolences to his family.  I met with Sandy in his office in 2014, and we kept in contact for some time.  I was familiar with his work on Oyu Tolgoi, having been working in Mongolia since 1996.  He was a true mining engineer, with great people skills.  He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.  We are so sorry to hear of his passing and send our belated wishes to family and friends.  

It was my intention to write this much closer to your passing, shows what an effect you had on my life that you are in my mind so often still. I learned from you much more than any other Boss I've ever had, not only relating to technical mining knowledge but how you were able to motivate people with your charm and sense of humour.     Always willing to help and provide support. A man with his priorities 100% where his family was always No.1. So many good times that I remember, especially all those early morning golf games at Dobson Ranch. Too bad I had to return home otherwise I'm sure there would have been many more memories. You will be in my thoughts always.

I am astonished to have learned of Sandy Watson's in November 2016 online.  I knew him for a short period of time but it felt like a long time of friendship and goodness....

As he climbed the corporate ladder I observed a leader in the making, a rising star but success never changed Sandy. He was still that guy.

Sandy was first and foremost a wonderful human being, the kind of person one strives to emulate. It was a constant joy to work with him on a daily basis. Sure he was smart, and he worked an enormous number of hours to the benefit of the rest of us. But more than that, he cared, he cared about each of us individually and he cared about the survival of the corporation. We relied on Sandy to keep us together; he never let us down.

He's irreplaceable; gone far too soon. His humour, his smile, his leadership, his just being him was a gift for us all. He will forever be missed.

I am so sorry to hear about Sandy's passing.  I have known, been friends and worked with Sandy for approximately 20 years.  Without exception he was always open, respectful and cheerful in his relations with me.  A meet with Sandy was always an occasion for me to look forward to because, without fail, the meet would have substance, but never be without its light and fun moments.  Sandy's conduct and character always made it easy to call him my friend and, most recently, my boss.

Sandra, Alex, Taylor and Madi we are all truly heartbroken and  saddened by the loss of Sandy. As we go through life we meet a multitude of people over the years, with only a select few standing out of the crowd.  Sandy was one of those select few who became a true friend with a unique sense of humor, who will always be close to my heart and never forgotten.  As we worked together over the last 20 plus years my admiration and respect for Sandy as a friend, family man and leader grew immensely and he will be forever missed. We are all blessed in being a part of Sandy's and your lives. We are heartbroken at Stantec over the sudden loss of Sandy.  Sandy and I have worked together the past eight years or so. I have always loved Sandy's fiery passion. He could be so calm and laid back but when the topic was right, he was all about it. He will be sorely missed.
