Susan was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on February 21, 1948, and graduated from Roosevelt High School as part of the Class of 1966. She spent 35 years in Des Moines before residing in Newport, Rhode Island, for 15 years - a place she loved and held close to her heart. She spent the final 25 years of her life retired in Chandler, Arizona, with her family.
She enjoyed the simple, quiet pleasures of life: puzzles spread across the kitchen table, rounds of golf with her family, long peaceful walks, and a deep, unwavering Christian faith that guided her every day. Her Christian faith extended beyond her daily life into her charitable work, particularly through her involvement with the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, an organization whose mission she held close to her heart.
She found her greatest joy in being surrounded by family and took great pride in helping to raise her children, grandchildren, and her nieces and nephews. Susan shaped multiple generations with a steady source of love, warmth, and guidance.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Darlene Koder; her maternal grandparents, Melvin and Anna Briggle; and her paternal grandparents, George and Charlotte Koder.
She is survived by her husband, John Knox, with whom she shared 51 incredible years of marriage; her son, James Knox, and his wife, Lynn; her grandsons, Isaac Knox and his wife, Judith, and Josh Knox; and her great-grandson, Michael Knox. She is also survived by her sisters, Rebecca Graves, Kay McDaniels, and Mary Collins; her brothers, Bobby Koder, Randall Koder, and Gary Koder; as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly and cared for as if they were her own.
We will miss her laughter, her welcoming home, and the way her presence brought warmth and light into every room she entered. She touched each of our lives in ways words can barely capture. We love her deeply, and we will miss her dearly.
She will be interred at Valley of the Sun Mortuary and Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, and all who knew and loved her will be welcome to join the family in honoring her memory before visiting her resting place together
