I miss you Bill everyday!!!  Every time I go to the camp - I say Hi and talk to you, Mom and Dad and smile about our fun times growing up together.  I know you are watching over all of us.

Bill made me a better man.   He was such a lovely man and I miss our Friday chats.   I am back in Arizona now and would really like to visit his final resting place.

Dear Bereaved family in the States, It was about 10 years ago when we were able to clarify the Swiss origin of the Baldinger family together with Nancy, Ruedi's cousin. We were able to exchange photos with Nancy and it touched us deeply to find the American family branch again. Due to the loss of contact addresses, it was unfortunately not possible for us to meet the Baldinger family and Bill. We are all the more deeply saddened when we now "discovered" the news of his death. We send our deepest condolences to the entire Baldinger family in the States from the old Swiss homeland. With warmest regards: Ruedi and Martine (Ruedi's mother was Elsa Baldinger, the direct niece of Edward Baldinger, who emigrated from Switzerland to the States in the late 19th century).



Thinking of Bill, the Baldinger Family, and all of Bill's friends today.  I always enjoyed hearing from Bill on Thanksgiving.  He would check to see what Chris and I were up to and share what he and the family were doing for the holiday.       

Of all the lakes and all the houses in Maine, New England and the Whole Wide World, we had the good fortune to move next to you! You became our dear friend and we will miss you terribly. Our best memories are hanging out on your deck, or our porch, with the families: talking, telling stories and listening to music with the occasional dance number! You introduced us to so many of your friends, who became our friends. You and Jani helped us build our shed, you taught Catie how to use the stand up paddle board (just stand on it and paddle! LOL,) you were always up for kayaks, swims or boat rides. Football season thankfully takes up the rest of the year. 
Sunday fun with texting and sharing our incredible football insights, and food and drink plans, not to mention cactus pictures from the 'dry heat", got us through the long New England Winter to the promise of fun at The Lake. We will always remember your kindness and friendship. Save a ChocoTaco for us. (I was gonna try and feed you snails this year.)

From our early visits to the lake we learned about cove watch.   Bill Sr, Joan, Bill, and Sandy would be on the deck and the brass telescope would be setup on table, outdoors if weather permitting but indoors if not.   As boats, canoes, or kayaks made their way into the cove Bill would take a look through the telescope and announce who or what approached.  If there were binoculars nearby others would grab a set and comment on the activity.   As years passed it became a source of amusement to see if we could determine friend or unknown interloper to the cove.  Kristen and Erin grew to know the sound of our boat engine and didn’t even need the telescope to know we were headed toward the dock to spend a day on the water with friends and share food and stories.   After the first trip to China a large pair of binoculars was added to the surveillance equipment.  I think you could see the blueberries growing on the other shore with them.   
When Bill and Sandy were not able to be in residence in the summer they graciously offered us (and many others) the use of the camp.   One of my many pleasures was to take over Cove Watch in the mornings.   An early riser, I would leave the house and pad down the steps to the dock with camera in hand, ready to send a snapshot of what was happening that morning.  Photo subjects often included mist rising off the water, the boat tied up on a glass flat lake, loons swimming and diving nearby and the thermometer, so that Bill could know what was happening at the lake.   When I am at the lake I will continue to document the morning report and the tradition of Cove Watch will go forward.   I’m posting this amazing photo taken October 13, 2019,  that Bill shared with me the morning after Jeff and Heather’s wedding, as he shared his happy place with all of us.

While I only had the privilege to work with Bill for 3 short months, he has left a lasting imprint. His warmth, kindness and professional manner made him an absolute pleasure to work with. I remember Bill’s love of all things Maine and especially his love for his grandchildren.  Here “Miketchup , Addison, Zoe and I are making one of his favorites, Whoopie Pies.  He gave them a thumbs up. 
I’ll never forget the gatherings at Thompson Lake like the pizza parties.  Bill manning the pizza peel and making sure everyone ate their fill.  
Just months ago we were talking about retirement and spending more time at Thompson Lake.  
Hopefully we’ll carry on for Bill.  That’s what he’d want us to do.


Bill and I took our boats up the Kennebec river from Bath to Gardner one Saturday, stopped in Richmond to get ice cream.  A rare off lake excursion and a great time with friends exploring new places to boat.  

Almost the entire (we were missing Tim) Thompson Lake / Fairchild gang gathered for group photo. Too many instructions about standing and sitting and kneeling obviously threw off the bride and groom. It was a wonderful evening and I even heard Bill kept asking to sit at the “kids” table, as it seemed to be more fun than his table. Not surprised.

As others have mentioned Bill frequently vocalized his dislike of seafood, but our Thompson Lake group has not given up hope for the grandchildren.   Zoey may be the champion so far.  As she pets the lobster that will soon go into the cooker, Bill clearly displays his aversion to any fondness she might have for this creature.   Zoey wasn’t crazy about lobster but she loved the scallops!   

We are thankful for the fun we had sharing photos and updates of our various seafood meals over the years, always anticipating his reaction.   Two weeks ago I texted Bill and the gang while we were sitting in the harbor at Woods Hole MA having fish tacos and grilled shrimp atop a fresh spinach salad.   My note said, “Lunch view in Woods Hole.  Can’t lie Bill, seafood on the menu everywhere 🤩.”  His response “Get out of there!!!”

Summer on Thompson Lake.  On the northwest side of the lake, about 4 miles from the Baldinger camp is a creek that can only be accessed by kayaks.  But how is it possible to get 15 people or so across the widest and windiest part of the lake without anyone getting lost or tired so that we could explore that creek on kayaks?  The solution? Tie ten or more kayaks together end to end and use Joan's boat to pull the whole train across the lake for the kayak adventure.  

So we did it.  Bill drove the boat, we all explored that creek with all its wild critters then packed it back up to head home.

We will miss you Bill.

It was winter in Maine.  That means the snow was deep, the air was cold and it was dark by 4pm.  Bill, Sandy, Linda and I (Gary) decided that it would be great fun to go upta camp and enjoy a winter's day and night there.  We packed our cars, shovels and lots of winter gear along with our food and water (Water does not work at the lake in winter) and we would ski all our kids down the camp road which of course was not plowed, and rough it for a night.  Kristen, Erin, Tim and Shealyn all were packed up and put on pull-able sleds for the ski down the road to camp.  Sandy and Linda skied on down with us in the pitch black night to the pitch black camp where the electricity was still off.

It didn't take too long to get down the road after we dug out parking spots for our cars, and got the lights on and the camp stove and heat on.  We had a great overnight adventure in the middle of winter in Maine.  We packed it all up the next day and skied across the ice to collect our cars and cart everything over the ice to head home.

We will miss Bill.  He was a great friend and always up for some fun.

 Sandy, as many of us return this Monday morning to our “normal” routine I know that doesn’t exist for you right now.  It doesn’t really exist for us either as we dearly miss our friend.   Please know how much we loved Bill and love you and your wonderful family.  We are grateful we were able to travel last week to be with you and celebrate a life well lived, a life generously shared with others.  We are holding you in our prayers and want the best for you in weeks ahead.   Draw on your inner strength, your faith and your friends. My condolences to the family.  I had the pleasure of meeting Bill at Intel and we both worked in Construction together.  We had so many great memories together and he always reminded me of Albert Einstein.  I would think very structured and he would have out of the box ideas and thoughts...always opened my mind with different perspectives.  Always talked about how much he enjoyed his happy place on the lake in Maine.  He also introduced me to Jersey Mikes and ensured I tried my sandwich "mikes way".  I'm very fortunate to have had Bill as an Intel friend.

We are so sorry for the loss of Bill, a great husband, father, grandfather and best  friend . We know that our words can do little to ease the sadness we are all going through. We are  keeping you in our thoughts. Our memories of Bill will last forever.  His humor will remain and never be forgotten. I first met Bill when he dated my daughter Sandy at Ohio University. He soon became a loving member. He visited us on weekends as we were closer than his family. After graduation he stayed with us as both he and Sandy had a summer job with the City of Charleston WV with a youth program, before he had to go back for a quarter to finish his engineering degree. When They visited he was never content to sit around, had to be busy, like his mom, especially after my husband passed away. I miss him now and till God calls me home. Your Mother in law. Mimmers to you.

Every single one in that team will never forget the coaches you had for us, and the friendship you shared with us, RIP Bill, on behalf of F68 IE team.

I remember how excited you were to finally get the camp expansion started and braving the Maine winter at our house so you could do some of the work yourself.  We were both amazed how Bill Twitchell raised the main truss with a rope and a come-along.  

I always enjoyed our discussions about engineering, technology, and construction after dinner.  Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about the three way switch by the stairs. It is on my to-to list for this summer.  Wish we could have diagnosed it together.

I will miss you dearly, Bill.  I love you like a brother and look forward to playing a round of golf with you and Dad on the back nine of the Pearly Gates Country Club.

Bill and I had fun painting together for a few days in the winter of 2017 when the new addition was built onto the Baldinger camp.  He definitely hated the cold weather.  I am going to miss the harassing phone calls and sunny photos from AZ when it's snowing and freezing cold in Maine.

Bill was a great mentor and warm hearted friend from who I learned a lot. The last lesson I just learned from him is that life may not be that long for everyone but you can always live it to the fullest by truly caring your family, helping people around you, and staying optimistic with the sense of humor. Rest in peace.

Bill was a good friend, not because we spent a lot of time together or knew each other a great deal, and had stories to tell; but, because I had a serious illness in January and February of this year and he really cared for me.  Not as a boss but as a true friend!  He truly went out out of his way to make sure I was taken care of and I could tell it wasn’t just a manager doing what HR told him to do but a man living out his own values.  He continued to check with me each week throughout the year.

He was my friend because he was a true friend in time of need, not just a drinking 
buddy! I will sorely miss him!

My husband and I got to know Bill and Sandy when our children were small, living in Shrewsbury, Ma.  Although it’s been many years since we last saw each other, Bill’s infectious smile and charming personality are clear in our minds.  He was typically the ‘life of the party’, and usually the one arranging the party too!  
The world was a better place with Bill in it, and a sadder place without him.

Our condolences go to Sandy and the entire Baldinger family. Bill was such a great guy, always open for a good discussion or even better a challenging off-road trip. Never shared a boat ride with him, but I have heard those might even have been scarier  or more challenging. 
We got to know Bill and Sandy as parents in law of our son Jan. Bill not only let Jan marry his oldest daughter, Kristen, but he opened his heart for Jan. They became “best buddies” in all adventures, and he instilled Jan’s love for Maine in him. 
It is beyond understanding that he will not be around anymore, but he will always be in our hearts and the good memories will last forever.

So today,    I thank  you all for allowing  Bill the  time to be our  friend  and  colleague  and   I will " toast him  with that  "Sangrita" and a beer chaser  we promised to have together.

My heart goes out to Bill's family. I am so sorry for the loss of Bill. I was introduced to Bill by Angela (Ying Ji) around end of 2021 and beginning of 2022. We probably had only a few hours of interactions through phones . However, I wish that I had known him years ago. He was kind, patient, calm, humble,  selfless, encouraging and aspiring to me. He is a great mentor.

  I will miss weekend coffee at Bergies, the hikes, the random meet-ups at hardware stores :-)text messages during football games. He loved life and hated seafood... So many cherished memories from China, New York, Maine and Arizona.  The most kind person I've met through my travels.  He will be greatly missed

Beer Festival!  Working and Playing Hard on 2 separate assignments to China.  Remembering the first I met Bill on a house hunting trip with Sandy and Tim.  Little did I know, I met someone who would become such a good friend and mentor.  

The weekend coffee at Bergies.  Sometimes it was just the 2 of us, talking about life, work, politics and football.  But the best times were always shared with other friends.

It was a magical evening. The lights sparkled beneath the umbrella on the deck. Lake and boating friends walked from their homes through the woods, others came by boat or in high-suspension vehicles down the camp road. Family, cousins and friends.

	Bill had readied 16 pizzas for 11 people—more than enough—each lined up in perfect little loaves of dough, ready to be spread and topped in order. It was a process. The lake crew brought every imaginable topping (except for anchovies) and with a signal from Bill, we each topped our own and it  was racked into in the high temp pizza oven that was stationed as far away from the house as permitting allows, next to an assortment of smokers and Bar-B-Qs. 

	We dined, we talked, we laughed. The grandgirls wanted more water time.  More visitors dropped in  to say hi. The color of the air over the deck as the sun set is singular--you can always tell where you are by the color.

	It was a special last night with Bill and Sandy and their family and friends. We are honored to have been a part of it.

I have had the pleasure to work with Bill in DPS over the last couple of years. A true gent. Bill had this great smile and glint in his eye (especially when he knew I was going to challenge him over some task he hadn’t completed for me). He had this wonderful knack for sending me a quick message on Teams  with just “are you there” last thing in the evening Irish time - I know then we were going to have a 2 minute call or a 30 minute call, could be either.
